If Job Interviews Scare the Snot Out of You
Recommended Answer:
What really matters in a job interview is stuff like:
1) How you handle yourself
2) How you come across in why you want the job, will you be reliable, how responsible are you. Stuff along this line.
3) As for clothing: It needs to be CLEAN and NEAT! Everything else is secondary.
Honest story: I interviewed for a job with Cray Research, Inc. This was a programming job paying in the $40K range during the early 1980s. (I did get the job and ended up making $125K.) The airline lost my bags and I had to interview wearing the clothes I wore on the plane. They were clean and neat. What was I wearing? Black/Black slip-on sneakers, Levi-501, a Prison t-Shirt, socks, underwear, etc.
I'm not recommending you wear prison clothes, but what mattered was me and I held myself. Your clothing helps to present how you hold yourself. You can go with sneakers, but make them as laid back as possible. I recommend people wear Vans Black/Black slip-on, Converse Monochrome (all Black), etc. Try to avoid White, Basketball sneakers, etc.
If you have dress shoes, sure wear them, but laid back sneakers should work.
