Job Interview Questions: Tips for a job interview as a veterinary receptionist?

i really want(need) this job and i'm super nervous.
any advice?
it's tomorrow morning.

Ace the Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
This may not answer your direct question, but I believe it is good advice for anyone who is looking for a job. One thing that job seekers seem not to know or forget is that all employers are looking for a certain type of worker. They are looking for an honest, hard working, fairly intelligent and dependable employee. They are also looking for a person who can get along with the public and other employees. If you don't have every one of those characteristics, your chances are slim and none to get and hang onto a job.

Always think about who you would like to hire if you were looking for an employee. Would you hire you? Look at yourself at the way you walk, talk, dress and even write. (Have someone proofread your application before turning it in. Fill it out in pencil first, then erase and use ink) Are you a dependable employee? If you were to be asked that question, how would you answer? Would you want you out on the firing line talking to customers? Why? You would want the best person talking to your customers, wouldn't you? Are you the best person? Why?

Your wants, needs and desires are not really important to a business owner. Stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about how you could improve the business you want to work for. Put yourself in the driver's seat and let the interviewer know who you are and what you can do for them. Somehow let them know that you are their best choice from all the others that are applying for the job.

If you really want to get hired, you should be camping out at the nearest library reading every job hunting book you can get your hands on. These books are a great help. Read them several times. It has been said that getting the job is harder than the job itself—so you need to be PREPARED.

Job Interview Questions: What types of questions should I expect for my first job interview...?

The Importance of Great Job Interview Answers

    Recommended Answer:
They have interview questions on the internet so you could look some up. Why are you interested in working here?, Do you eat here? What do you expect as a customer? What hours/days can you work? Do you understand the dress code? (It helps if you can show your personality, but don't over do that. Let them know you have a sense of humor, but don't be too friendly/familiar, it would show lack of respect) Look them in the eye, firm hand shake. If you don't understand a question ask them to give you an example of what they are asking. Most places use general questions, but they can often have different meanings. The thing you need to understand about customer service is that the customer could have had a problem long before they entered the facility, and the slightest thing you did or said could have set them off. So while it is important to try and do anything you can to please and keep your customers, it is also important to realize that there are a lot of people scamming businesses these days. There is a fine line between, "What can I do to keep you as my customer?" and knowing what customers are harmful or not wanted in your facility, and are just there to scam your company. Just try and do the best you can, we all think of better answers when we get home. When you leave, shake the persons hand and thank them and try to remember their name and use the name when you thank them. Good luck

Oil Rigs Employment - Some Facts About the Oil Rig Job Interview

    • It really depends on where you're interviewing at. Since it's your first job, I'm guessing its just a summer job type thing? The people that interview you for those type of jobs usually are inexperienced at giving interviews, and will ask pretty standard questions. Two that you should definitely have prepared are: What are your greatest strengths/weakness and Tell me about yourself. Good luck!

    • For your first job they might ask things like:
      >Why are you interested in working here?
      >Name some good experiences you've had in the past at similar businesses and what made them good?
      >What do you like most about our store?
      >What experience do you have that would help you to do well here? (use school or extracurricular experience since this is your first job)
      >What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Don't be too fake and say too much that you don't mean, because they can tell. But if you exaggerate a little without completely lying you will be fine.

Job Interview Questions: Illegal job interview question?

I am in my mid 50's and went on a job interview on Friday, on the job application, it asked for marital status, and I checked Single, never married. The interviewer saw this and asked me why I never married. Apparently, she assumed that this was due to a flaw in my character. The real truth is a very personal physical problem, but the way I see it, I'm screwed no matter how I answer that question.

Can she legally ask that question? How should I answer that if that question is asked again?

Job Interview Help - Some Things That Might Help You Ace Your Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
Instead of considering the *legality* of this question or any such 'edgy' question, consider the motivation behind it.

I'm sorry to say that this could be a ploy to test you for 'persnickety-ness.'

One of the reasons for age bias in all fields and careers for 'line-level' employees is this: younger people are perceived as being 'open minded' and 'flexible' and older people are often perceived as 'persnickety.'

Now, I mean 'persnickety' from the EMPLOYER'S point of view, not persnickety from a social/interpersonal point of view. Here's what employers might fear about older employees:

    1) more likely to be aware of all the various employment laws and to hold the employer accountable

    2) more likely to make demands for 100% compliance with health&safety laws, break times, vacations, comp time, overtime, promotions, etc.

You can see where I'm going here -- employers don't want employees who, upon getting hired, start citing this rule and that rule, and demanding this accomodation and that accomodation, or make frequent trips to Human Resources to threaten action 'If a person with less experience gets promoted over me' and so on.

When the interviewer asks this question, if the candidate acts startled/angry and replies "It's against the law to ask that question" THAT CANDIDATE DOES NOT GET THE JOB. And the motivation behind asking that question was simply to expose a 'persnickety troublemaker' before they manage to make it into the company.

    Job Interview Tips

    • I don't think it is illegal to ask this question, although anyone experienced in interviewing would not ask you personal questions unrelated to the job.

If the question is asked again, maybe the best answer you could give is just "I never married due to personal reasons." - that's true, but it doesn't go into any embarrassing details. Of course, you are well within your rights to instead say "Please don't take this the wrong way, but I prefer not to answer personal questions that don't seem to be related to the job."

    • Godzilla's response is right on. The question is designed to measure your level of tolerance when it comes to answering sensitive personal queries. The quickness of the answer is also considered.

      Good luck!

    • In the US it's illegal to include on an application or ask in an interview. But what are you going to do about it... you can't remind them this is not appropriate questions but you can't sure them over it.

Keys to Successful Employment - Professional Job Interview Tips

      Recommended Answer:
I'd recommend a charcoal gray or dark navy blue skirt suit. Stay away from loud patterns like bold pinstripes or plaids. I'd also say a white, gray, or powder blue blouse would be good; they're basic pieces and will work for many ocassions. Also, the reason I said a skirt suit is because it is professional, but a pants suit may say "business" a little too strongly for a funeral.

As for where to get them, check out any department store (Macys, Penneys, Kohls, etc) or specialty store (Express, The Limited, etc.).

Job Interview Questions: What impression do a cast and crutches make on a job interview?

Would you not hire someone because they were on crutches / temporarily handicapped (but this problem didn't impede their ability to do their job)? First, let me say that I see the situation from both sides. I have one leg and use crutches most of the time, so I understand your dilemma. You want to practice on your crutches so they do not appear as a chore, but as if you have had them for life and they are a part of you. Don't mention your injury unless you are asked about it, and be very honest. A good interviewer will look past your injury. A lot depends on what work you are applying for. Feel free to email me if you have more questions. Sorry about your injury. Most of all good luck, let me know how you make out.

12 Job Interview Tips to Help You Ace Your Next Interview!

          • You cannot be discriminated again because of a disability or temporary disability. If I were you, I would just try to exude confidence and don't yourself act as if your injury is a hindrance. I don't know how mobile you are on your crutches, but if you make it look like you are an old pro and can get around with no problem, then it would probably not even become an issue.

In my experience doing job interviews for potential cashiers, I have had a candidate or two with a foot injury, and I had to be careful in choosing (or not choosing) someone who would have a problem standing for a certain period of time. But if you don't have to be on your feet all day, then I don't think you should have anything to worry about. :)

          • In my opinion they should NOT discriminate against you just because you have a temporary injury. If they do thats just plain rude.Just because you have a broken foot at the moment does not mean you cannot do your job.The cast will come off,and you will be walking again,so you should be ok in my opinion.
