Job Interview Questions: How to escape questions about religion in job interview?

I don't want to talk about religion at work and school and don't want people judge me by my religion. I'm Christian but prefer not to talk about religion. It's too personal. I'll have an interview, if they asked me about my belief what is a good answer to bypass the question without sounding rude?

Job Interview Tips - Best Interview Questions

Recommended Answer:
If you are in the U.S., they cannot legally ask you anything about religion in an interview. Nor can they ask about children, marriage, health, etc. If they do ask, say, "How is this relevant to the job being offered?"

Job Interview Weaknesses - How to Overcome These Common Job Interview Weaknesses

  • The first answer is correct. If you live in the US, it is illegal to ask a person about their religion in the interview. So basically if this happens, they're the ones who have problems, not you.

    But realistically, even if you don't live in the US, I can't see how ones religious views would come into play in the vast majority of job interviews. It would certainly be the rare interview where it would even be relevant enough to be brought up, so I doubt you need to worry much. Even if it would, I think you could just say politely "I don't prefer to discuss religion in the workplace". I don't think that would sound rude at all :-)

  • If you live in the US, it's not legal for interviewers to talk about religion. If you live somewhere where it's legal to discuss religion in interviews, why not just say, "My beliefs are very personal and I prefer not to discuss them" or something like that?

  • NO one is allowed to ask questions re your religion, it is illegal and if they ask that, leave and look for another job. And at school or anywhere else just say sorry, that's my personal business and no one else's.

  • Likewise in Australia it is not a legal question. However, if they ask you could just explain that you do not allow your religious beliefs to interfere with your work. Throw a question back and ask if the religion will impact on the job.

  • You are a practical atheist. Don't be afraid of these "questions". Study, reflect and learn to defend your beliefs.

  • They can't ask you questions about religion in the US. Illegal to do that.

    How to Ace Your Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
    you should be dressed formally and act polite....yea avoid wearing jeans wear slacks and a shirt or a Hollister button up shirt ! they would ask you are you up for the job and did you have any other job and all that stuff !!

    Job Interviews -- What Your Pre-Interview Research Should Cover

    • Wearing a suit to an informal workplace would be overkill. Wearing jeans would be the opposite - you should wear something casual, neat and clean.

      Questions can range all over the map. Some may be job-related and attempt to assess your skills, some may be about you, your future plans, have you ever been arrested, stolen anything, etc.

      Always act friendly and smile - if the decision comes down to two equally qualified candidates, the one with a sourpuss will generally lose to someone with a smile or at least less of a sourpuss. Remember, they have to work with you, and if you've got "unhappy and rife with problems" written on your face... well, you get the idea.

    • wear hollister clothes

    Job Interview Questions: How do prepare for a job interview?

    I recently applied to work at a hip clothing store similar to Charlotte Ruse in the mall, and I heard back in two days that they wanted to do an interview. I've never held a job before, so I'm really nervous. My only previous work experience was doing research, so I'm a little clueless about what they might ask?

    What should i wear? What might they ask me and how should I respond?

    Any tips?

    Thanks so much for all your help in advance, thank you.

    How to Ace a Nursing Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
    Wear clothes that they might carry, but nothing outrageous. Tone the 'trendy' down a notch.

    Show up early. Do not bring a boyfriend or anyone with you. Smile and make eye contact throughout the interview. You want to present yourself as positive, professional, reliable and quick to learn.

    They will probably ask you why you want to work there and if you have any scheduling conflicts outside of work.

    Do some research on the company. Have some questions of your own prepared, for instance, ask about the shift loads and scheduling.

    Good luck!

    Critical Mistakes To Avoid at Job Interview

    • This site has some questions that an interviewer may ask: www.careerbuilder.com and can click 'career advice' on the right-hand side of the page.

      The person interviewing you might ask 'why you would like to work at the establishment' (perhaps you enjoy fashion and providing superior customer service or something to that effect), what 'you believe are your strengths and weaknesses' (no one should talk negatively about themselves though), the basics about job availability and hours (those in retail usually prefer employees that can work evenings and weekends), why they 'should hire you over the other applicant' that they'd interviewed (always give 110% and very dedicated to whichever project in which you're working or such), whether or not your prefer working in a group or independently (they're hoping that you're able to work in both situations as a team player and with autonomy). They will most likely ask if you have any questions, and it's always great to have a few intelligent ones ready which shows that you're interested in the job and that you're not just sitting in the chair like a lump on a log, lol.

      Regarding attire for the interview, just to add to the other great post to Never wear sneakers or open-toe shoes, tank tops/bare midriff shirts, really short skirts, have one's arms covered at all times, avoid heavy perfume or fragrance and do not wear gaudy/ostentatious jewelry. This site has more information on what NOT to wear at a job interview: www.careerbuilder.com/Article/CB-…

    Recommended Answer:
    The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one. The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing. That's why it's always important to dress professionally for a job interview, even if the work environment is casual.

    What's the appropriate dress code for an interview? You'll want that first impression to be not just a good one, but, a great one. The candidate dressed in a suit and tie is going to make a much better impression than the candidate dressed in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt.

    How to Dress for an Interview:

    Men's Interview Attire

    * Suit (solid color - navy or dark grey)
    * Long sleeve shirt (white or coordinated with the suit)
    * Belt
    * Tie
    * Dark socks, conservative leather shoes
    * Little or no jewelry
    * Neat, professional hairstyle
    * Limit the aftershave
    * Neatly trimmed nails
    * Portfolio or briefcase

    Women's Interview Attire

    * Suit (navy, black or dark grey)
    * The suit skirt should be long enough so you can sit down comfortably
    * Coordinated blouse
    * Conservative shoes
    * Limited jewelry (no dangling earrings or arms full of bracelets)
    * No jewelry is better than cheap jewelry
    * Professional hairstyle
    * Neutral pantyhose
    * Light make-up and perfume
    * Neatly manicured clean nails
    * Portfolio or briefcase

    What Not to Bring to the Interview

    * Gum
    * Cell phone
    * Ipod
    * Coffee or soda
    * If you have lots of piercings, leave some of your rings at home (earrings only, is a good rule)
    * Cover tattoos

    Interview Attire Tips

    * Before you even think about going on an interview, make sure you have appropriate interview attire and everything fits correctly.
    * Get your clothes ready the night before, so you don't have to spend time getting them ready on the day of the interview.
    * If your clothes are dry clean only, take them to the cleaners after an interview, so they are ready for next time.
    * Polish your shoes.
    * Bring a breath mint and use it before you enter the building.

    Job Interview Questions: During a job interview, is it considered bad to ask how many hours you will be working a week?

    I have recently graduated college and have been applying to several jobs. Since many jobs are salaried I am TERRIFIED I will accept a job that ends up working me 50-60 hours a week. Does it sound bad to ask? Is there a better way to find out?

    2 Simple Steps to Crushing Your Competition During Your Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
    It will all depend on how you present the question. If you outright ask, "How many hours will I work?" that will not sound to good to them as it sounds like you are just worried about that. It is a good question to ask as you are in sound mind with not wanting to work for a company that works 50-60 hours every week. I know as for myself I always present the question as, "How long is the work week?" as that sounds a tad more professional.

    How to Shine in Audit Jobs Interviews

    • Maybe the best way to ask is something along the lines of "just so I know, what shift am I interviewing for?" If they tell you 2-7 but don't mention the number of days you've opened yourself up to asking something like "how many days a week would i be working?"

    • To the best of my knowledge a salaried position is considered 40 hours and after that is time and one half. It is better to ask first so as to clear all mis-understandings in the future. "better way to find out" just ask what the hours are.

      Job Interview Questions: Is it better to reschedule a job interview or be late to a job interview?

      Well I was going to be late today for a job interview so I reschedule it for another day.

      I was wondering if this was better then being late? and will this hurt my chances of getting this job?

      Great Tips for a Successful Job Interview

      Recommended Answer:
      If you know you're going to be more that 10 minutes late, then reschedule. But, keep in mind rescheduling can hurt your chances; because, the interviewer can think of you as a person who probably calls-in a lot and deem you as undependable.

      Job Interview Tips - How to Showcase Your Talents Confidently

      • Rescheduling is better but make sure you do it the right way.

        Call immediately if you know you need to reschedule job interview, preferably before the day of your interview - it is inappropriate and inconsiderate to call on the day itself.
        Speak directly to your interviewer. Most of the time, employers inform you of the person who will talk to you in the interview. Answering machines or leaving messages are a no-no - they're not only unprofessional, but you risk not having them delivered and keep people waiting.
        Apologize and be polite when on the phone with the interviewer, and explain why to reschedule job interview.
        Request to reschedule your interview on a date that you sure you can be present, and if the interviewer agrees to it. Once a date is set, always thank the interviewer sincerely for giving you another shot at getting the job.
        Once you have a reschedule job interview, show your appreciation to your prospective employer by calling in to confirm that you will be up and about during the interview. This helps diminish thoughts of insincerity and unreliability from you.

        On the day of your rescheduled interview, be sure to apologize again and show all ways of courtesy.

      • Call to reschedule...they'll respect you for that. But give them a really good reason for why you need to reschedule.

        You could call them today and say that something VERY important has come up (keep the reason brief but solid) and ask if they can do the interview later today or another day in the week.

        (if you turn up late to an interview without calling they'll think you're irresponsible and a bad timekeeper.......... )
