Job Interview Questions: Job Interview: What are the main things you shouldn't say or do on a job interview?

This economy is tough, but it is picking up.
Companies are scrutinizing resumes more than ever.
People are trying to change their resumes to make themselves seem more appealing.
I for one do not know what to do.

Job Interview Know How - 7 Quick Steps to Ace Your Face to Face and Get a Job Offer in 30 Days

Recommended Answer:
Well, I was on an interview team and when we asked the man a question he said, "Wow, for my next interview I should probably figure out how to answer that question." So I guess one thing is not to make reference to your next interview for a different company while you are still in an interview!

Wherever you are planning on interviewing for, try to find out as much as you can about their company. Then, when they ask you questions about your experiences, state them, but then say things like, "But in your company I know you do..." and say what you know about it. Employers appreciate the effort that you are connecting your experience with your prospective new company or job.
Good luck

Great Tips for a Successful Job Interview

  • Eilatan-

It's important that you are well prepared for your interview. Many companies ask the same common interview questions. If you know these questions, you can prepare in advance and really stand out in your interview

The free website below has several interview questions and answers + interview tips. Best of luck with your job search.

    Mike

  • Practice what your responses will be, with either your friend or by recording your responses and playing them. Think of actual examples of times when you have used your skills. This provides credibility to what you are saying and to your resume.

Get ready by having your attire neat and tidy long before the interview day.

When being interviewed, maintain eye contact with the one interviewing.

Listen to the questions and wait until the interviewer is through before answering.

Take note to pay attention when you are being questioned since forgetting the question will leave a bad impression on the interviewer.

Try to be as relevant as possible when answering questions. This means that you try to relate what you know with what the company is looking for.

Use proper English when answering questions and avoid slang or street language since this is generally considered unprofessional.

Ensure that your body language shows you are interested. That means avoid slouchy and dejected looks and instead sit straight and shoulders up.

Ask questions about the position and the organization.

Avoid asking questions about salary and job benefits.

  • It is all about preparation! The better prepared you are for your job interview the greater your chances of success. Do your homework - go and research the company and find out as much as you can about it. Prepare for common interview questions such as "Tell me about yourself", "What are your strengths and weaknesses" and "Why should we hire you". These questions and other standard interview questions are discussed with sample interview answers at the site below. Good Luck.

  • First of all, if you've already got interviews lined up, then don't worry about your résumé so much!

Some interview questions show up in every interview, and preparing for your job interview ahead of time can impress your interviewer and save you stress. Before you meet your potential employer face-to-face, think about how you'll answer these 7 common job interview questions:

    1. Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Stay focused on your work experiences and how they've prepared you for this job. Also mention what you're looking for now and why this job is a good match for you.

    2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Interviewers expect to see that the job you're applying for is a part of your overall plan – otherwise, why would you really want the job? But your goal can involve more than just landing the job in question. In your job interview, emphasize a goal that requires skills you'll develop within the company – without mentioning any of its competitors!

    3. What is your biggest weakness?
This common job interview question seems tricky, but the key is to mention a flaw that you're taking steps to fix.

    4. Why should we hire you?
Come up with a few examples of how your previous jobs, internships, or college classes fostered skills that are essential for the position. Some extracurricular activities also develop skills that look good on a résumé or in an interview.

    5. What can you tell us about our company?
Know what the company offers and its proposed goals. It might help to be familiar with the major players in the business, as well as the people in your department. A sure way to impress on this job interview question is to mention a difference between the company and its competitors, and why that difference increases your interest in working with the company.

    6. Can you tell me about a time you've worked as a team/as a leader/as a problem solver?
Job interviewers love to hear specific examples — past experiences can be more honest and accurate indicators of your potential in the workplace than vague statements about your qualifications.

    7. Do you have any questions for me?
Write down some questions before the job interview that shows your interest in the company and what you can do for them. You might want to know the projects you'll be working on or the skills an ideal employee should cultivate. Some of your questions might be answered during the main portion of the job interview, so stay alert and modify your list of questions if need be.

  • You should be as honest as possible. And beware of salary-related questions. Recruiters use them to filter out unqualified candidates for reasons you might NOT have expected.

Job Interview Questions: I need advice for a job interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow and im really worried. I keep thinking that im going to screw it up by not knowing what to say when they ask me a question, its only for a job at a local bowling alley, but i am really nervous about it, does any1 have any advice on how to not screw it up, because like i have said, IM CRAPPING MY PANTS!!, thanks :)

Job Interviewing Skills - How to Mess Up Your Next Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
I love these questions!

First sweetie, stop worrying. Everybody is nervous when going into a job interview, so the manager will understand your uneasiness. But with these tips, they won't turn you down!

1. Dress to impress. Doesn't matter if you're applying at the grocery store or that high class french boutique down the street. You should ALWAYS look your best. People don't want to hire a slob. They want prim, neat, pressed and hygienic. I suggest you shower right before going in there.
If you're thinking of wearing blue jeans, think again! You want slacks. Black, grey, white, beige, doesn't matter, and as far as tops go, something pretty that you wouldn't wear on a daily basis, but make sure that it doesn't show much, or any, cleavage.
Dressing up nicely shows them that you're professional, and neat. It gives off the appearance of being organized and mature, which is good.

2. Try to show up at least 5 minutes early. On time says you're trustworthy to show up to work when you're supposed to. Being their early says that you really care.

3. Respect! When that manager walks up to you, if you're sitting down, STAND IMMEDIATELY. Standing when someone approaches you shows a sign of respect for them. Shake his/her hand firmly, and look them straight in the eyes and say something like "It's a pleasure to meet you."

4. When you get to the table where they will interview you, sit up straight, don't slouch. Keep hands in your lap or crossed on the table in front of you. Try to avoid fiddling with your hair or something on your clothes.

5. When being interviewed, they will ask questions, but they're easy to answer. Sometimes they'll ask you to recall a past event. Take your time in doing this. Like I said, it is understandable to be nervous. Always seem upbeat and happy, however. Energy and enthusiasm are key to getting a job that involves contact with other people. Answer the questions as if you're having a blast and you're really happy to be there. If you can, throw in a few good things about yourself. Remember, an interview is you convincing them why THEY need YOU to be a part of their team.

6. Remember you're P's and Q's. Always say Yes Sir and No Sir, Yes Mam, or No Mam. Avoid using words such as "like, well, and uh." You know, fillers.

7. f you can, try to make them laugh, make them smile. If you like their tie or their dress, say something about it.

8. At the end of the interview, be sure to stand again and shake their hand before you leave, tell them thank you for taking time out of their day to talk to you.

Just be confident. Tell yourself repeatedly the whole way there that you'll do fine. Listen to some music that puts you in a happy mood. Imagine yourself getting the job and I promise it will happen.

GOOD LUCK!!

  • Prepare by trying to anticipate the answers to common interview questions so that the level of nervousness you experience will be less. It can help you do better during an interview.

Job Interview Questions: How does this sound after a job interview?

Somebody said it would be a good idea to thank him for his time
sooo how does this sound? Sports & Wellness is a gymThank you for the opportunity you gave me to interview for the
Hospitality Desk Associate position and also Thank you so much for taking
time from your busy schedule to meet with me the other day.
Sports & Wellness seems like a wonderful place to work I would very
much like to be part of the Sports & Wellness team.
I will look forward to your decision.

Job Interview Tips For You-Five Tips To Instantly Increase Your Success Rate

Recommended Answer:
You are missing a period after "wonderful place to work"

Thank you should only be capitalized if it is the beginning of a sentence

also, sounds robotic.

Lastly, you need to pose your working there as a benefit for the gym, not for yourself.

Instead of saying "I would like to be a part of the team" you should say " I look forward to providing excellent service to your customers" or something like that. The main idea here is they don't care about helping you, only about how you can help them. All communication during the hiring process should be directed AT the company, not towards the benefits YOU will receive by being employed.

2 Simple Steps to Crushing Your Competition During Your Job Interview

  • Ok this sounds dull and like every other letter that interviewer is going to get.

    Try this;

    Dear ********

I would like to express my sincere gratitude, for your meeting with me to discuss the hospitality desk position you currently have available, I feel that my skills and abilities would be a benefit to your organization and your consumers, as i enjoy working with the public and offering outstanding customer service. Having met with you I feel that working for your dynamic organisation would offer me a promising career path and, that it would allow me to improve on my existing skills and allow me to develop new ones.

Once again allow me to thank you ,for taking the time to meet with me in respect of my application, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Kind Regards

I'm 16 and this is my first time going to an interview for a job. The interview is at Safeway. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips. And do I need to bring anything to the interview?

How to Do Well in a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Just wear nice clothes (i.e. NOT jeans). They'll probably ask you about school. There's not a whole lot else they can ask a 16 year old!

If you have a resume, go ahead and bring it, but it's really not required.

Good luck!

Job Interview Questions: What should a middle-aged woman wear to a job interview?

Just got laid off...will be looking for work for the first time in about 10 years. These will be administrative/executive assistant type positions. What would be a good interview outfit? Are slacks OK these days? My hair is long and straight...would tying it in a loose ponytail look too severe? I don't want to look seductive either, but I realize young women these days consider that a job skill!

The Ten Rules For a Great Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
Any lady over 30-35 that has long hair should wear it up or back, off her face. A nice suit is fine, go easy on the makeup, very light, and use little to no perfume and very little jewelry. None is best because many people have allergies.

Do You Need Job Interview Coaching?

    • Suit with skirt, pantsuit, slacks with a nice blouse. Ponytail is fine. You don't want to look totally boring but you don't want to look seductive either.
Lol @ what you said about a job skill.

    • I agree with Spindrif except for the jewelry a few accessories will show your confidence

Job Interview Questions: What is the best answer to give when asked for weaknesses during job interview?

    Recommended Answer:
The trick for most interview questions is to deflect it in some manner.

If I'm asked what my weakness is, I'll answer something like, "I tend to get frustrated when my coworkers don't complete their work and I have to finish it for them."

I was asked in an interview how I handled a crisis, (something that goes with my job). I told him of a situation I dealt with (very well) and then I said, "How would you have handled it"? He fumbled around for a minute and said, "We'd be hosed".

The idea is to be prepared to turn your answer away from yourself to another direction. Don't badmouth coworkers, just imply that you don't want to do their work too.

How to Master a Job Interview

    • 'i tend to piss on the floor when i go to the lavs but apart from that i dont have any weaknesses'

    • I would say "my biggest weakness is that I'm too accommodating sometimes, and just don't know when its best to put myself first"

If you cant dazzle em with diamonds, baffle em with bullshit.

    • Personally, (don't know if this will apply for you) the answer I give is this,

"My greatest weakness is currently that I am younger than most of the other applicants. Often employers prefer to select people who have been in the working force a few more years than I have, even though I am equally qualified for the position. While I am younger and may have less experience, I have much ambition, and am a quick study."

Being young, is not an answer they are expecting, but it's definitely true. It's hardly the fault of the person, but many times employers pick someone that's in their late 20s-30s over someone that's a recent graduate, or younger. I figure that way, it's an honest answer, it doesn't reflect negatively on me, and maybe it will make them feel guilty if they want to hire someone older than me.

    • "Chocolate is my weakness."

Thank you :) I'll give 5 stars to the best answer!

Job Interview Cheat Sheet - Top 6 Questions & Mental Strategies

    Recommended Answer:
You should wear a nice dress , and look your best , because employers hire the people who make good impressions . They sometimes ask why you left your last job or what responsibilities you had , what do you want todo 5-10 yrs in future , may ask about your courses in school and how do you think it relates , why do you want to work here or what do you know about our company . You can ask about pay , benefits , future payraises , or expectations from prospective boss . Never be too honest and give them too much information that may be viewed negatively , but tell the truth and never lie in an interview . Best of luck !

Job Interview Questions: How should I cancel a job interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow, but the only problem I have is that it is way too far. My parents are not advising me to go to this job interview, simply because it could be stressful. There are other branches of this company in my city (which is closer to me). So my question is how do I cancel the interview and still get permission from them to transfer to a closer branch?

2 Simple Steps to Crushing Your Competition During Your Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
Give them a call and explain that it may not be feasible for you to work at such distance and if they a re hiring for multiple branches then mention your preference for the one closest to your home. And if they are only hiring for that specific branch then it is sure there's no communication between the branches and just skip this interview and apply for one where you prefer to work.

Answers to Job Interview Questions - How to Deal With Tough Interview Questions

    • If you dont INTERVIEW for the job, why would they need to give you PERMISSION to transfer? Basically, you wont get the job if you dont interview.

One branch is not going to communicate with the other branch that you missed an interview.

Dont sweat it.. cancel that interview and then call the local branch and arrange an interview there.

    • in that case, it is advisable for you to go to the iinterview. if you pass it, you can ask their advice. if you do not, there is no need to worry about the later stuff. but i hope you can get what you want, good luck.
