Job Interview Questions: Nervous about a job interview?

i'm 16 years old and i am going to my first job interview at a coffee shop today. i know i shouldn't be nervous. but sometimes when i talk to new people i get really uncomfortable and i talk fast and my voice shakes so you can tell when i'm nervous.

so what can i do to be less nervous? and also, what kind of questions can i expect them to ask me?

Do You Need Job Interview Coaching?

Recommended Answer:
Look up interview questions online- there are tons of websites that list practice questions for interviewees just like you!

Expect questions like:
"Why do you think you're the ideal candidate for this job?"
"Describe yourself in five words."
"Where do you see yourself in ten years?"

But, like I said, there are many more practice questions online. Just Google search "interview questions" and you'll find several websites.

After that, just take several simple steps to ensure you're looking and feeling your best.

1. Clothes: pick out your favorite business outfit- wear a color that compliments your skin tone, or your eyes, or something you enjoy wearing. The better you think you look, the more confident you will feel, and the interviewer will notice that!

2. Take time before the interview to sit in a quiet place and relax, whether it's your room, your backyard, in the shower, etc. Take fifteen minutes to relax and clear your mind. Remind yourself that you are a talented, hard-working person who deserves this job.

3. During the interview, if you start getting nervous and freaking out, take a moment and take a deep breath. It will allow to relax momentarily, gather your thoughts, and continue with your answers. The interviewer will understand, don't worry- if your sixteen and this is your first job interview, they will understand if you're a little nervous.

Good luck :) hope you get the job.

How to Prepare for a Job Interview

  • I like to do a brutal workout on the day of an interview. I don't know if you have time for that, but it really relaxes me. Also look up common interview questions, practice answering them, and visualize yourself doing well. While you're looking up interview questions, also look up questions that you should ask. At the end of the interview, the interviewer will say "Do you have any questions?" This is not the time to ask about pay, benefits, breaks, free coffee, etc. There are several websites with good questions for you to ask. I had an interview at Home Depot a few years ago, and I thought I sucked, but the interviewer loved the questions I asked and it probably got me the job. Being prepared will make you feel more confident, and less nervous. It's good to be about 5-10 minutes early, but not a half hour early. Pretend the interviewer is your friend, and you're just having a conversation. A coffee shop interview probably isn't going to be as tough as an interview for a higher-paying job. Good luck:)

  • Hey. You'll do just fine and besides whats there to be nervous of? words? Don't let words overpower your life because words is just a state of mind not physical interactions. Also you should expect to be a tiny bit nervous on your first job interview its just natural.

Things you can do to be less nervous is always remember that if you are nervous you will slip big time and also when you talk to the person who is interviewing you just remember to get there with a very positive attitude and don't look too suspicious or anything. Another helpful tip would be to talk to the person like it was your best friend or someone that you'd respect the most in your whole life.

I'm not too sure about the questions they might ask you because all jobs aren't the same you know.
Though just remember to stay sharp but not too sharp before you look like your gonna explode and you'd do fine.

  • the same way you would talk to your family members and teachers should give you an example, talk slowly, relax your words and smile. Those are the keys during an interview and speaking of which an interview is a two way conversation as both people get to know about the job and personality of each other.

Good ways to make you feel relaxed is not to think too much about the interview because we get excited to be called for a job and all other things and preparation gets lost.

    Questions they would ask you:

    Why should I hire you?

If hired, when can you you start?

If given a schedule, would you be able work these hours?

    Do you have any references?

Lastly ask them some questions, but never ask about salary.

    Good luck in your interview.

  • It's all in your self-talk. You have to go in there thinking that this interview is JUST as much about you deciding whether or not you want to work for THEM as it is about them deciding whether or not to hire you. You need to have the attitude that you're an intelligent, hard-working, responsible individual who has a lot to offer an establishment like this, and if they don't have sense enough to see that and to offer you the job, then that's THEIR loss, and you really don't WANT to work for an outfit like that, and you'll go to work for a more worthy company. And you know what, it's not just a head game to play---it's TRUE!

Interview questions are pretty standard, so practice answering them. They're probably going to include things like "tell me about yourself", "what do you plan to do with your life after high school", "what do you look for in a boss", and "why did you quit your last job". If you don't have a lot of experience (at the ripe old age of 16), then be prepared to tell them what you've done to show leadership and responsibility at school, at church, or in the community.

Interviews are simply a way for a prospective employer to meet you and to get to know you. Remember that you'll never have a second chance to make a good first impression, so watch your grooming, arrive on time, and have on some DECENT clothes. Stand up straight and look the interviewer in the eye. Shake his hand confidently. Remember that you want to look more like a dependable grown up who's got his act together rather than a typical kid whose plans don't go far beyond his next video game. You'll do fine!

  • Take a deep breath and just relax right before you walk in. Google common interview questions. Remember to answer honestly and give plenty of eye contact. Go to a mirror and practice your answers over and over that will help that way some of the questions won't feel like they are on the spot. If they tell you to tell them a little about yourself talk about stuff that could help you out at the coffee shop. Talk about being a multi-tasker and things like that don't go off on a tangent because the question is so broad. Good Luck sweety and just make sure you believe in yourself because if you don't no one will.

  • Most people get nervous at interviews. It is ok to be a little nervous. Try some deep breath exercises before you go in. You can google some interview questions but I can't imagine that the questions may be too intense.

  • Take a shot! No don't do that j/k. Just chill, the more tense/nervous you are the worse it will be.

Job Interview Questions: If you are not offered a position during the interview, does it means you didn't get the job?

I went for a job interview today, the recruiter interviewed first, then sent me to see the supervisor for the job I am applying for. The supervisor asked a lot of general questions, mostly about what would you do in this or that situation, type of questions. He cell ran a couple of times, she stopped to browse the caller. I left and she did not say anything about if I was considered for the position. Is it true that if you are not offered a position during the interview, it means you did not get the job?

  • No necessarily. In my experience, no one has ever offered me a job right after the initial interview ended. Even when I was hiring people, I never offered them the job right away. There is usually a process that must be followed. Some companies even hold interviews that span days. When I went through my hiring process at work, I would set up the interviews, hold them, then submit the ones I liked to my supervisor. If she approved, she submitted them to the Corporations head office. Then if their background check cleared, I would be given the ok to call them and officially offer them the job. At the soonest we would know by the end of the business day, but only if everything was submitted early and everyone was in their office. Good luck to you!

Job Interview Questions: What to wear for job interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow at jcpenney as a sales associate. I'm a 16 yr old girl and I was wondering what to wear. I have this blue dress that is slightly above the knee and a little blue bolero. Would it be terrible to wear a dress slightly above the knee? Because otherwise I will have to wear jeans cause I don't have anything else. And if you have any tips involving the interview please help because it's my first one! I don't want to mess it up.

    Job Interview Mistakes To Avoid

    Recommended Answer:
Make sure you show up at least 15 minutes before your interview. Make good eye contact and only tell them what they ask for( don't talk too much). Be prepared to answer a question like "Why would you be good for this company?" or something like that. Be honest and don't ask how much you will be getting paid until after you get the job. When you sit down do not cross your legs or arms employers take that as if you are not being open with them body language is a big part of it. If you are prepared you will do fine and you will not be nervous if you are confident in your abilities. When they ask if you have any question for them a good one to ask is" what dose the training inlet" or "How would you describe the responsibilities of the position?"any other question you maybe wondering, again do not ask about pay until after.
The dress will be fine if it doesn't show your shoulders or too low on your chest remember you will be sitting down so test it out and make sure it doesn't go up to high when you sit down.

Job Interview Tips - Best Interview Questions

    • You have some very good advice here. I assume you have already filled out an application. If you haven't given any references, be prepared to give them. The dress is probably better. I can only add to the look them in the eye when you speak that you need to sit and stand straight, don't slouch. Be sure your shoes are cleaned or polished and your nails clean and filed. Not too heavy on any makeup and cover any tatoos and pull out anything that isn't appropriate. I disagree on asking questions about salary, hours or whatever. They are all part of the job description and I would want to know just exactly what the job entails and what is expected of you. And be sure to know about the store and what you will be selling. Don't forget to smile and be polite, friendly yet professional. good luck.. .

    • I think your dress will be fine. Be polite, use good voculabary, maintain eye contact, don't talk too much. They won't expect much from 16 year old but you should be able to *smile* and speak intelligently. Don't worry, relax. Have a few questions to ask them at the end but not about discounts, hours or salary.

    • where the dress. make sure to wear pantyhoes or at least stocking and most importantly, act like you've done this before and that you are familiar with their store.

      Recommended Answer:
You should bring it up if the interview is going well. Maybe when they ask you if there's anything you'd like to add or something like that.
This might affect your chances of getting the job. They might need someone right now and since you can't start until late august, they might give your job to someone who can start right now.
Just be honest with the interviewer and see what happens.
