It is always helpful. I applied to a job and went through 3 interviews and it came down to me and a girl, and she finally got it. We had same education and experience, but a friend of mine who worked there said that he boss appreciated a thank you note that she sent. He thought it was courteous and professional. So after that I started doing it and got a job soon after. Just make sure to proofread and make it personalized, it definitely cannot hurt you! Good luck on the job hunt =)

    • Well, the main thing is it shows another skill set you have, that you have manners, are conscious of your surroundings, etc. whether it lands you the job is arguably. Also, it makes the employer maybe remember you when it comes to decisions between several people.
If you are applying for a job where social graces matter, then it won't hurt your chances.

It will not be very objective for a thank you note to land you a job, it is up to your experiences/skill match for the job. I have never had too much of a problem landing a job, neither have a I landed all the jobs I have applied for, however, I have never done the thank you note thing. I usually say 'thank you for having me here today and for the opportunity', blah blah.

I have worked with Human Resources to do recruitments and can honestly say, handwritten thank you notes are 'nice' but ultimately, if you lack the required skills, you will get nowhere.

Remember, thank you notes do not have to be handwritten, emails are probably preferable these days. Phone calls are also very effective if you insist on the thanking the employer.

Another thing, interviews happen so quickly these days, within 24 hours, so the quicker you do the thanks, the better.

      Good luck eitherway.
