Job Interview Questions: How should I prepare for my job interview?

I was called to interview at a place in Dayton, OH called Dorothy Lane Market. It is a very nice grocery store with specialty items and is pretty fancy. What type of questions should I expect? I am in high school and have never worked before..besides a camp job that was pretty much volunteer work.

Great Tips for a Successful Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
Hi Jackie, here's some questions they'll probably ask -

Give me an example of when you have delivered excellent customer service and gone above and beyond your normal duties to help a customer? Maybe use an example of where you've worked doing gardening in the summer vacation for 6 or 7 different houses on your street to earn extra money; explain that you always turned up on time, worked 10 hour days, and always had a good attitude to helping your elderly neighbours and as a result they always ring you if they need odd jobs doing.

Give an example of when you have worked as part of a team?

Do you prefer to work as an individual or as a team? *Hint, for this question, you should use an example of both. Say you like working in a team but also as an individual when the job calls for it. This way they know you work well with others but you also have a brain and can cope on your own.

Give an example of where you've had to help a colleague in a difficult situation?

I'd also suggest when they interview you, that you smile a lot, be very friendly and ask a lot of questions. Ask them do they see a lot more customers coming into the store because of the Summer holidays, and also let them know you are very flexible as far as doing extra shifts. If you have a good flexible attitude and are a nice person they will want you as they always want to maintain their image as a friendly store for families.

Google their website, find out how many stores they have, ask them what areas they will train you in if you get the job.

If you have friends there, dont name-drop them, but maybe say something like "My friend worked here for a while, and she was telling me how she really loved being able to answer customer's questions and help them out with their enquiries." This way it shows you have a good attitude towards the job and have also taken the time to find out how the store works behind the scenes.

Remember, it's all about good attitude and being motivated. You'll be fine

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Job Interview Questions: If flying out of state for a job interview, is it ok if I ask the recruiter what the pay scale is before?

I was offered a job interview in NYC, I am paying for my flight and hotel out there, is it proper or frowned upon if I ask what the pay range is before I buy a plane ticket just so I know that I'm not flying out there for a poorly paying job? I don't want to ruin my chances if it is a good job and they think bad of me asking.

Job Interview Questions: Any tips for a job interview?

I'm 18 and I have a job interview to work in a large department store as a sales assistant. It will be a group assessment interview and i'm really nervous. Does anyone have any useful tips?

      Job Interview Success

      Recommended Answer:
The prospective employer should see the salesman in you even before you make your first sale.

      1. Go to the interview like you're about to face a business prospect. Learn about the prospect's needs (in the sales jobs interview, your interviewer), such as what they are looking for in a sales consultant and how you will fit in the position.

      2. Prepare your presentation as you would show a new sales idea to your bosses. Your presentation contents would be your sales experience chronologically presented in detail, including the techniques you used to arrive at your results. Highlight stories based on the qualifications a certain company wants.

      3. Find and prepare documents you will use in the interview, such as extra copies of your resume, your portfolio, and other professional works. For new graduates, never fail to bring your college transcript.

      4. Wear presentable sales jobs interview attire and arrive early, at least 15 minutes before your interview schedule.

      5. Review anticipated questions or, if you can, role-play the interview by asking a friend to act as your interviewer. It would be easier to practice answering questions this way than saying them all in your head.

Job Interview Questions - How to Answer Popular Job Interview Questions

      • Sounds wonderful! I'm sure you know to dress professionally, but also fashionably.

Be early (at least 15 minutes).

Stand up straight and smile often. Exude confidence. Be sure the interviewer knows that you are a hard worker, a fast learner, and that you can't wait to begin working there!

Stress your work ethic and flexibility (employers love to hire people who can work anytime).

Let the interviewer know your strengths, specifically as they apply to this position (how you will benefit the department store).

Positivity is so important. Don't talk negatively about this store or any previous employers. Put a positive spin on everything.

Bring several hard copies of your resume just in case.

Thank the interviewer, tell them it was wonderful meeting them, and wish them a good weekend.

Finally, don't forget to follow up. If you aren't hired on the spot, call Monday to thank them again for the interview. Ask specifically for the person who interviewed you and if they aren't available, leave a message. Make sure to indicate that this job is your first choice and you can't wait to begin working (at their convenience).

Keep following up every few days. Persistence often pays off. Just be polite, and not annoying.

Good luck! Hope you get the job! =)

      • be confident and look in to the eyes of the interviewer when they are talking or when you are answering them and answer as many questions as possible. I had to a group interview before and that's what I did but I turned the job down.

Job Interview Questions: Can someone give me some good job interview tips?

I have a job interview friday to work as a cashier at panda express.. and im kinda shy and not that outgoing.. and i was hopeing i could get some good tips on things i could say so that i could get the job... thankx in advance!:)

Things to Do in a Job Interview

      Recommended Answer:
Well... in this type of position you have to be out going and not shy of speaking up or over a mic...some places do that. If you want the job you have to show an interest of what you are applying for and in this case a cashier needs to know basic communication skills dealing with people that have different attitudes, and knowing you are there to help make things run smoothly. I would suggest when you talk to the person conducting the interview limit your answers to short but concise responses, and try not to use the word (um) in between your words. Keep eye contact, and strongly imply that you are willing to learn and develop more within in the company, and you like the thought of something challenging. My advice is simply be calm, and speak clearly do not put a lot of words in one sentence. Breathe in between thoughts. Well I hope you get the job, and all goes well. Oh! remember the interviewer wants to know you are there for the job not just for the money though you may be that is not the way to get the job. Good Luck!!

The 5 Biggest Mistakes People Make in Job Interviews - And How You Can Avoid Them!

      • Become less shy and more outgoing. If you're a cashier you're going to be dealing with people all day and will need to be vocal and friendly.

      • You should in fact practice smiling in the mirror. Google "typical job interview questions" Basic questions may include: Why do you feel you can do this job? Where do you want to be five years from now? Why do you feel that you can do this job? What was the last book you read?

If you have piercing other than earrings --- take them out. If you have tattoos --- cover them up.

Have you heard of Sam E? It's over the counter mood relaxer. Might be what you need before an interview.

      • I am really shy too but think of it as IF I really want this job then I will have to be outgoing or you will never get it

Job Interview Questions: How do you ace a job interview?

I was just wondering how you really impress the interviewer when your in a job interview? I thought I did my best at a job interview but she didn't call me or anything. I hope next interview I do better.

      10 Biggest Job Interviewing Mistakes

      Recommended Answer:
There isn't really a particular thing that you can do to ensure you'll get the job. Interviewers can be vastly different in terms of their personalities and level of experience. Different people will find different things impressive. Some people will focus on your attitude or professionalism, others will not pay attention to anything except the content of your answers.

Many times it is not about whether you did your best - sometimes it has to do with your qualifications, versus the other candidates. If another applicant has more experience, more training, certifications, etc, then there isn't too much you can say in the interview to get the job.

I would suggest you just do what you can to prepare - this means researching the company online, and also practicing with common interview questions and thinking about how you would answer them. Then just be yourself. It's not only about getting an offer, it's about finding a company where you will fit in, and they will value the unique mix of skills and knowledge that you bring to the table.

Job Interview - How Your Body Language Can Affect Your Interview

      • im surprised those other 2 answers didnt mention what is, in my opinion, the most important thing..... interview questions!!! now, i dont mean the questions that they ask you.... no need to prepare for those. i mean, you should prepare a list of questions that YOU can ask to the interviewer. if at the end of the interview they say "do you have any questions?" and you have none, good luck getting hired. asking questions is important for a few reasons. first, it shows that you are truly interested. if you ask questions about the company industry, they will know you have done some research about the related industry. ask some questions about the company history, and also the job that youre being interviewed for. ask about specific tasks, and feel free to share your experiences if they relate to the job at hand. come prepared with a notepad with 10-20 questions on it. really, this makes a HUGE difference and im always surprised to see a question with 4 or 5 answers.... and none of them suggest making a list of questions!!!

        good luck!

      • First impression: Be dressed professionally (suit); give a firm handshake, and exchange business cards.

Be prepared to answer every question by giving specific examples of how it relates to your experience and/or education.

Never badmouth a former boss, coworker, or company.

Don't ask about salary, vacation or benefits. let them bring it up.

        Don't reveal personal information.

      • Confidence is the key. Unless you have the one qualification that they must have and no one else can match. The way to get the confidence is to go on lots of interviews. When you have attended 10, you realize that the interviewer is nervous, too. She doesn't want to make a mistake.
