Job Interview Questions: Waiting it out or contacting, for job interview?

I received an email from XYZ company about being considered for a second round interview. My problem is that, in the email, it states that they'll contact me within 2 weeks and its already past 4. Should I contact them back or just wait it out? I don't want to wait much longer nor do I want to bother them in the middle of the decision. What should I do? Thanks again for the help!

What You Need to Know About Job Interview Questions

    Recommended Answer:
Unfortunately, you've really waited too long. Once it was two weeks and one day would have been the appropriate time to send an e-mail (with their e-mail still included). You should immediately send an e-mail at this point to inquire about your status as a candidate. Also, you should definitely check your Spam folder in case somehow they notified you (perhaps from a different e-mail address).

Job Interview Questions: Job for a 16 year old/ what to say at my first interview?

I live walking distance from a TON of places; the mall, small plazas, restaurants, and a library. Many of my friends apply at stores and don't get hired because their interviews didn't go well. What should I say at my first job interview for a clothing store? They ask for experience and whatnot but i've never had any. Help?

Be Prepared For Job Interview Success

    Recommended Answer:
    Hi Danae,

Getting it right at a job interview is crucial if you want to stand a good chance of getting the job. Chances are that there are multiple candidates being interviewed and you are "just another candidate" unless you do something to stand out.

The good news is that there are some common job interview questions that 99.9% of employers will ask you. They ask you these questions for a reason and being prepared for them will give you a huge advantage.

Also, knowing what they are will take away that element of surprise that can catch you off guard at the wrong moment.

Lets quickly look at some of the most common job interview questions and how to answer them well.

    - "Can you tell me more about yourself?"

Obviously they don't want to know about your grandmother, your problems or all the hardships in your life. You need to focus on aspects about your life that will illustrate you ability to do the job. Focus on your education, your leadership positions and your achievements and then tell it in a congruent story that it upbeat and interesting.

    - "Tell me more about your previous position?"

This is an important question because they are trying to establish exactly what you did, how much responsibility you can handle and what your real world skills are. Its important that you are brutally honest here but make sure to paint your responsibilities in a positive light. Focus on how you contributed to the company's success, their growth and their overall mission. This shows that you are a team player.

    - "Why do you want to leave your current job?"

This is a tough question and one that you will be asked. Its really important that you don't slag off your current employer. It will put you in a bad light. Always come up with positive reasons like wanting to advance your career or seeking new challenges and opportunities.

    - "Why should I give you the job?"

This is a tough question to answer for many people because we don't like to talk ourselves up. Its important that you answer this by focusing 100% on what you can offer the company and not on what you will get from them. Think about how your unique skill and experience can help them.

    - "What is your salary expectations?"

Its important that you don't sell yourself short. Its also important that you don't have a too high expectation because it can scare off potential employers.

The safest way is to aim slightly above the standard salary for someone in your position and level of experience. You can also add that you are willing to prove yourself and settle for a starting salary that is slightly below your expectation.

These are just a few of the most common job interview questions that you will almost certainly be asked. Prepare for them and make sure you are ready with good answers.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Job Interviews Should Be As Easy As Trying on a Pair of Shoes

    • I'm 17, and had my first interview at age 15. It was at a baseball stadium for concessions but it simply followed with questions such as:

      1. Have you ever had any past experiences with bad customers? And how have you dealed with them?

      2. What past experiences have you had where you were required to perform a team effort?

Questions such as that, and working with customers and your fellow peers.

Just keep your mind open, think of logical answers, and you'll do great.

    • Show knowledge of and interest in the business. Tell about anything you have done with other people, such as clubs, volunteering, etc. Don't ask about salary or benefits on the first interview unless they bring it up.

Job Interview Questions: What to wear to job interview?

Well I have a job interview for a customer service position at Eastbay tomorrow. I was thinking either between a black button down shirt tucked in with some upper buttons open or a black Express polo along with tanish khaki pants. Which of the two shirt options would you wear for this type of job? If this helps, the dress code for the job is sort of "casual"

Job Interview Process 101 for First Time Job Seekers

    Recommended Answer:
Wear the dress shirt with the khaki pants. If you have a sport jacket, put it on. Always dress up for an interview. You can remove the jacket when you arrive. If you're a gentleman, wear a necktie if you have one.

Make sure your shoes are shined.

Have a FIRM handshake, look the interviewer in the eye, and state your full name. Make sure your resume is on one page. If you're interviewing with a company and can carry one of its products, it will make you look even sharper.

    Self-Speaking Lies About Job Interviews

    • You are interviewed for a customer service position, you better dress appropriately. You don't have to be trendy or flashy. Dress comfortably, dress shoes, tie, sport jacket and shirt. Make sure you are clean shaved and well groomed.

    • I would say the black button down but make sure you put a jacket over it.

Job Interview Questions: What to wear to a job interview?

      Hello all,
My students often ask me what they should wear to a job interview. Being a little old fashion, I normally wear a suit or recommend to wear one. Working in IT when I interview an applicant, I will generally overlook what they are wearing unless it's really bad, but I will definitely give an applicant higher points if they dress up.

What are your thoughts? Thank you for taking the time.

whether you interview with mcdonald's for a cashier job, or for a swimming teacher, you should always look as professional as a CEO! i learned that in college, and it was one of the few things that i still remember. Your advice is not old fashion, it is exactly what employers (in any business/industry) expect. The more professional the applicants look, the more interested in the position and the company they appear.
This article offers very good advice on what to wear to interviews: https://sites.google.com/site/theresuman… (and I actually think it is very close to what you consider "old fashion" ). Also look over that website, maybe you can find some good advice to give your students regarding job search.

Hope this was useful. I apreciate your initiative to help your students, I find it laudable. Keep up the good work! :)

Job Interviews - Interrogation Or Discussion? We Know Which We Prefer

      • Dress as if you were the head of the department, supervising those who have the job you're applying for.

Depending on the job, that might mean khakis and a polo shirt--or a three piece suit.

When I worked at Avis, we interviewed lots of guys for the car prep--vacuuming, washing, gassing, and moving the rental cars. It was hot, sweaty work at times, and the guys got dirty. But those who dressed like they were ready to get dirty had it count heavily against them, while those who wore a tie like our boss earned more respect. They were most often the ones we hired.

For girls and women, you might stress that looking sexy, attractive, cute, and all that is not desirable for the interview and probably not for the workplace as well. Looking competent, professional, and pleasant rather than hot is likely to get you serious consideration. (At Avis we didn't consider anybody who tried to look hot.)

      • I think it depends on where they are applying. Dress standards vary so much. Appropriate clothing would be different at, say; IBM and at Microsoft. Here's what I advise; go to the workplace before you interview there. Ask for just a brief visit. An applicant should do all the homework they can about the place they are applying. Notice what you can about the work environment, what is valued? what is frowned on? Then when it comes time for the interview, dress "one click up" from what most of the employees were wearing. An applicant should look like they fit in, but also like they are making an effort.
But I agree with you that conservative dress is always the better option. Again, it looks like you've made some effort.

      • I heard that it always depends on the job you are being interviewed for. If you are applying for a job as busboy at a restaurant it is okay just to wear a clean pair of khakis and a white button up shirt. If it was for a job as lets say, a manager for that restaurant you would also want to wear a tie with your button up shirt and maybe think about upgrading to a pair of black or grey slacks. If it is for a higher end business setting a suit is always appropriate. For a female all of this also applies. Except you would also have the options of wear skirts which should never be more than an inch above your knees. Hope this helps!!

      • what would you do if you were a serious business man/woman? thats all you need to ask yourself. just try and dress professional and show confidence. you should be good to go after that and if they cant accept that then forget those guys and apply somewhere else then because i hate when these people lead on you. its a bunch of bullcrap anyway

Thank You For The Job Interview - Are You Sending a Follow Up Letter?

      • I've actually done it before myself.

Most larger hotels or motels will have either coffee shops or bars. And the hotels don't mind that you visit there to buy something to eat or drink. Just tell the inverviewee something like, "I will meet you at 6PM at the Tropicana Bar at the Holiday Inn in Springfield. But be sure to describe what you will be wearing and exactly where you will be (usually seated in the lobby area right outside of the bar itself).

Just about every hotel in a metropolitan area will have some sort of eating or drinking place on the first floor near the lobby. I've even been in some Comfort Inns that had pizza parlours and sandwich shops on the first floor with plenty of meeting space.

But..the best way to go is someplace high end. Even though you are sort of borrowing space, it just seems more impressive when you can meet someone at the luxury bar at the nearby Hilton.

      • If you are screening, do the first interview via telephone.

If you are doing the final interview, then a coffee shop where there is space and you could be relatively anonymous and interview over coffee or tea.

I've seen contracts finalized in the coffee or donut shop.

Come to think of it, I have participated in a job interview in a coffee shop near an office where I worked. I had applied for a job in another dept. and the interviewer traveled from his work site located across town. NO. That cheap boss did not offer to buy anything. Maybe after he finished the interviews he bought himself and his secretary something to eat. (I didn't get the job but I had another reason for applying)

      • You are better to interview them near their working place, so they will get a feeling of touch about this job, and understand more for your expected working environment. Any coffee shop will be a nice place, if you offer the position on sale marketing, marketing executive usually meets his client within coffee shop.

      • Most places where a person interviewing doesn't have an office hold the interviews in a relatively quiet area with chairs and a table, often break rooms or the like.
