What should I say in this job interview?
I'm a 16 year old girl and I applied for a job at a clothing store.
The store mainly provides clothes for women who are 30+ years old.
So anyway, I have an interview this weekend and I'm not sure exactly what I should say if they ask the question
"Why do you want to work here?"

A Guide to the Most Evil Job Interview Questions
- "Why do you want to work here?" is usually a question that a prospective employer asks in order to asses two things, one is whether you will fit the culture and the other is to see if you did advance research. Look up the company and find out what their core values are and see how well you fit their culture. It is a win-win answer for you. If you fit the culture, then you'll know how to reply, if you don't then you wouldn't want to work there anyways. It should have nothing to do with who the merchandise is marketed to (in this case 30+ women). Your answer should have something to do with the philosophy of the company, such as they are innovative, progressive, self-governing, or whatever.
- The words "cart" and "horse" are spinning around in my mind here: surely you knew that before you applied, and probably answered the question in your CV, cover letter or job application form?
If you don't know why, and are looking to invent a reason, then you are already at a loss to other applicants who do want that job at that shop: there are lots of hungry people out there at present! If you made a "just a job" application, that will tell in interview.
The answer is research. Read about their company, that shop, your geography (ie: market); and where you want to be when you are 25+? Retail is about people engagement, marketing and detail: so what is it about them that appeals to you, and what they will add to your skill sets in those areas? Do they have a great training programme, or excellent marketing? Have you or your friends/Mums friends been there, what did they like?
Don't make this mistake again - research the companies before applying and know what appeals/why you are applying.
Good Luck!
- Try the truth is better than anything you could make up,when all is said and done i sure they don't want someone who pretends to want to work there because they need someone who,and will work at their job and help raise the sales not someone who is going to get bored very quick etc the truth will win out everytime, and if your going to lie about that how can they trust you to handle money and customers, you need to make them feel that they need you more than the next person be yourself, dress accordingly adbe polite at all times
- Tell them you why you want to work there. Something like I wish to learn about business, dealing with people, and how to sell. You also know that since this is your first job that you will learn a lot from a number of different people. You are also looking forward to having a store full of clothes to make selections from for other people. I hope this helps. Good luck.
- You should say something like.....I would like the oppritunity to learn about fashion, and to provide great customer service, which is something that is missing in the shopping expirence....shopping for clothes should be fun and not stressful
- Tell them the truth, Why do you want to work their. Come up with a list of 4 or 5 good reason. Such as.
You are located close to where I live or from my school.
I like your merchandise
I like dealing with women who want to look nice.
