Job Interview Questions: Phone Job Interview, when is appropriate to call back?

I was referred for a job. Received an email stating they were hiring and he wanted to know what my career goals were. I called him the day after, he was busy at the time and stated he would call back that day - he didn't. How long should I go before calling him back again?

Recommended Answer:
Regarding professionalism of contacting someone for a career/position/job, I believe waiting a full business day (8-24 hours) is best practice.

However, in this particular situation, I would contact the individual as soon as possible, as this will show him that you are interested and eager to fulfill the position. As well, he may have forgotten, so calling him may be a better idea (instead of waiting for him to call you).

What to Do on a Job Interview to Land a Job

  • i would call him back today.. or like now because what are you suppose to do? he said he would call you back and didn't.. it would look better on your part to call back sooner than later to show your interest in the job

  • The following day. You have nothing to lose by calling him back once or twice.

    Job Interview Questions: Waitrose food counters job interview ?

    Im sixteen and this is my first job interview and i want to be ready, however im not sure what sort of things a supermarket like waitrose might ask me at the interview ? my letter does not state if it is a group interview.

    Job Interview Tips For Success

    Recommended Answer:
    If it doesn't say that it's a group interview, then it's probably not. I will try to offer you advice for both sides, but I have only done a group interview myself.
    If you have a group interview, make sure you're not one of the people that fades in to the background saying nothing. You will have to do several tasks which include working in two separate teams contributing ideas together & then reporting back to the rest of the group, and going round the circle talking about yourself individually.
    Make sure in the group tasks you try and contribute as much as possible, take the form of a leader (without being bossy) and if they ask if anyone wants to go first to talk about yourself or to share your ideas, volunteer wherever possible to go first (it impresses them & this way nobody can say something that you wanted to say).
    Try and look smart but you don't need to over dress, when I went to my interview one guy was in a shirt and tie etc & he looked really out of place. Me and several other people were just in smart casual (I'm not sure if you are a boy or a girl, but I wore leggings & a nice top, quite casual without looking scruffy. If you are a guy I suggest maybe black trousers with a casual shirt).
    They are really over enthusiastic about their food, & they will probably ask you what your favourite food is and to give reason. Something they look for in their employees is a passion for food, so make sure you emphasize this where possible.
    They may ask you to come up with one fact that you know about Waitrose (it can be anything; it's history, something about their staff, the John Lewis Partnership etc.)
    I don't know how you would naturally talk, but if you are normally a little common sounding try to project your voice well & be well spoken. One guy in mine was dropping the T's in most of his words & it really didn't sound very good.
    Finally, have a sense of humour & be smiley. They seemed to appreciate a sense of humour in my interview & they even openly admitted that they are looking someone funny who can have a good time as well as work hard.

    If it's just a one to one interview, then the only advice I can offer is to be confident. If they ask you what you can offer to Waitrose talk about being a reliable employee, your enthusiasm to learn skills, your passion to work with people (& food). If they ask you why you want to work for Waitrose, say that you like their values of quality, as they are one of the high-quality food producing stores. Also say that you appreciate it is a widely known & well respected company, and you would be proud to be part of the team.

    It's healthy to be nervous, but just don't be quiet!! Even if you say something a bit silly or answer a question wrong they will ALWAYS appreciate you speaking up more than not saying anything at all.
    If it makes you feel better, you must already be in their good books because I know they are very fussy when it comes to choosing between applicants to invite to interviews.

    Lastly, IF it is a group interview & you find this a little daunting.. I was PETRIFIED but ended up actually having a really good 2 & a half hours. It was really fun & relaxed! One-to-one interviews are easy as well because you only have one person to worry about impressing, so you'll only be nervous for the first few minutes.

    GOOD LUCK :)

          2 Simple Steps to Crushing Your Competition During Your Job Interview

          Recommended Answer:
          Entirely depends on what the job is. As you are aware, a suit would be a bit much for the job you're going for. If you overdress, then hiring managers sometimes wonder whether you have any idea what kind of work you are asking for.

          Think "Sunday best" but don't get all dressed up for a wedding. No cleavage. No toes showing from shoes. Flats or low heels are better than high heels. Clothes properly cleaned and pressed. Avoid overly trendy things (like maxi dresses or drapey cardigans). Stick with simple pants and blouses that look classic and timeless. Keep the jewelry to about 5 pieces (the general rule allows for two earrings, one necklace, one ring--counting wedding rings as one, and one bracelet or watch) or less and make sure it's tasteful and not loud.

          If you already know dress code for the work place, dress as close as you can to those requirements. You can call and ask if you're not sure. For example, if the workplace requires black pants and black shoes as part of the uniform, you should wear black pants and black shoes to the interview. The hiring manager will immediately start to see you as fitting right in.

          No Time To Prepare For The Job Interview?

          • Slacks and a nice top ... no jeans, no t-shirts. Clean hair and hands. BE ON TIME. Good Luck.

          • Black dress pants would probably be the best but you could probably wear jeans if you wanted. That and some sort of top, not a t-shirt/hoodie sort of thing.

            Good luck btw

          • i say wear semi formal clothes, but dont go all out lol. like dont show too much skin. Also make sure your hair is clean and make sure your body language is good because everyone looks at body language. you can probably get the job. good luck =)

          How To Make Job Interviews Easy

          • Here is the (very long but very important) list that I recommend to clients. Obviously not everything will be necessary for you, but it will at least give you a checklist to start!

            * One nice copy of your resume for each person interviewing you, plus one copy for yourself to reference (if you don't know how many people you will encounter, I usually print 10)
            * Two nice copies of your reference list
            * Two nice copies of testimonials and reference letters
            * Two nice copies of positive, relevant work reviews and awards
            * Two nice copies of relevant designs, artwork, proposals, project plans, reports, etc.
            * One nice portfolio (optional) in which to arrange your testimonials, reviews, and related work. Don't include anything that you don't want to lose. (I learned this the hard way. I put original certificates, awards, and references in a portfolio, and a hiring manager asked to keep it for review. I was so excited about the job and trusted that I would be hired, that I allowed him to keep it. A couple of days later I called to see when I could pick it up and he had lost it.)
            * Two pens that work
            * Notepad (In advance, I write my questions on it and notes for myself so the interviewers know I've come prepared. You should also write down the names, titles, and other notes about the people interviewing you.)
            * Directions to the interview
            * Contact number in case you get lost or are late (don't be late!)
            * Fully charged cell phone
            * Hairbrush or comb
            * Breath mints
            * Tissues
            * Stain remover pen or wipes
            * Coins for parking meters and vending machines
            * Money for coffee with the interviewer, lunch, parking, etc.
            * Bottle of water (most places will offer you something to drink, but I like to be prepared)
            * Anything else the interviewer has asked you to bring

          • Use an interview checklist of what you need to do the day before your interview and what you should take with you to the job interview. The site below provides a comprehensive interview checklist so you can be well prepared for your interview.

          • Nothing, really. Just yourself!
