Job Interview Questions: If at a job interview the interviewer says if I don't hear from him call him in a week is that good or bad?

He said he doesn't hire people on the spot so was that phrase just to blow me off or am I almost certain to have the job.? He gave me his office number to call him and he said he was going to see if anything matched my criteria. (I asked to only work nights)

The Values That You Should Have in a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Don't ever wait to hear from an employer. Yes, it is true for some employers that if they want you they will call but that only covers some circumstances. If you want the job, call him. If he says "call me back in another week", call him back in another week.

Be persistent. That doesn't mean be bothersome or agitate the guy. Just keep your face and name fresh in his mind so that when there is an opening, he will think of you.

If he said he was going to see if there was an opening that suits your need, he probably meant it. You don' t know what is going on in his restaurant or store or wherever you applied. He may have someone in mind who he wants to fire or maybe someone is going on leave of absence to have a knee replacement surgery and maybe that person works night shift and the manager has to find out when the employee is going on medical leave. There could be all kinds of reasons.

So your job is to call him next week as he requested. Since you don't have control over his actions or thoughts, all you can worry about is your part of the equation.

That's a smart manager who doesn't hire people on the spot and that's good for you also if you get the job because you don't want to work a place that has high turnover. That would mean that it isn't a good place to work or the pay is bad, etc and if the manager hires on the spot, it is only because he is not organized or always losing employees and can't keep up.

If he didn't mean what he said, he wouldn't have given you his office number. Call him but plan what you will say. Be professional and you will be fine. If he doesn't have anything for you, ask if it would be ok to call him back in a few weeks to see if there are opeinings.Believe me, all managers want a few good applications on file so that they can have someone to hire if needed.

Stay positive and be patient and be persistent and be confident and you will be successful! I don't understand why people answer these questions with negative answers. You get what you think you will get. A positive attitude and confidence is what it's all about. Remember that.

Best wishes to you in your NEW job!

Job Interview Preparation

  • I don't think this means much either way. All it really means is that he didn't think you were OMG BEST PERSON EVAR but he also didn't think UGH SUXXOR GTFO.

What *would* be bad is if you don't hear anything from him in a week, and then when you call, he tells you to call again in another week. The longer that goes on, the less likely it is that he's busy, and the more likely it is that he's one of those people who either hates making decisions (bad) or hates to give bad news (also bad).

  • Right now, it doesn't sound great. Not because he asked for a reminder, but because he said he was going to see if anything matched your criteria- that makes it sound like he would prefer someone who could work days to me.

Trust me, if they want you, THEY will call (usually within 3 days of the interview). I have never been hired on the spot in the professional world- it is usual practice in the business world. Fast food restuarants hire on the spot, not 'real jobs'

Job Interview Questions: Should I wear a tie to a job interview at the same company at which I work?

Normally wear nice jeans and a dress shirt to work. I can agree on wearing a suit... but should the suit include a tie? I think ties are sometimes silly.

The Easy Way to Answer Job Interview Questions

Recommended Answer:
For an interview, go with shirt and tie. If you don't usually wear one, it will show how much you want the promotion. Good Luck!!

Nifty Tips For Winning a Job Interview - A Must Look

  • It wouldn't be a bad idea to wear a tie. It would show that you respect the interview and the position you're applying for. You could always take the tie and the suit jacket off after the interview.

A good rule of thumb is dress for the job you want, not the job you have. If the new position will require a tie, then definitely wear a tie.

  • If you are going to wear a suit, definately wear a tie.
Another option, depending on where you work, is a nice shirt with a tie.

You need to judge based on where you work. You generally want to look better than a normal work day, to show you are serious about this and to be taken seriously. When you see people wearing suits there, do they wear a tie? If so - wear one! It doesn't matter if you think the tie looks silly, it's what is respected there.

    Good luck!

  • Always your turn ot will show interviewer how serious you are, even though you know every in the room it is etiquette of modern day interviews.

  • The company already knows what you wear to work, so why give them false impressions.

  • yes - remember you are going to a job interview, even if its at your own company. dress for the interview not your job . gl (:>))

  • I would say go with the tie. They may be silly, but to most business's' they say professional.

  • Just like everyone else said: Yes, wear a tie! A suit without a tie just says you don't quite care enough to give "110%".

Any insight and useful information would be appreciated.
This is also my first interview ever and I have no job experience.

What To Do And Not To Do In A Job Interview

      Recommended Answer:
well i do have job experience in being a salesman at radioshack, a telemarketer sales agent over the phone selling health coverage, and being a waiter whitche i have learned strong communication skills so my strongest advice to you is this and if you use these tips you should be a shoe in
      you must appear presentable
smile and be happy show them you have enthusiasm apeear with lighte attitude but also seriouse and about buissnes responsibilty and ready to work
if you are young and this is youre first job and they ask why do you need this money and this job tell them aboutr youre goals and youre plans and responsibnilys for youre not to distant future but be also realistic and dont show them you are planning to ahead but also show them that you do have youre eyes straigthe forward and ready to work and that you are responsible but do not tell them too mutche about youre personell life just what mainly has too do with the job and try too really get along and be vibrant and also life licke
and also you can tell them that you are familiar to the store or the name brand of the store if you are
then that would be the truthe then they would know that you are not exactgley new tro the company and alreadey kn ow kinda what to expect from the company well from the custmers point of view and they willl figyure you can learn the workers point of view as well being that you are alreadey used to the company being that you are and were a frequent visitore
so you can not really tell them to mutche with no experienc but if you show them you are
      ready to work
a person readey to communicate with customers if needed and listen to the manager
and show them you are kind,, smart friendly, and vibrant, show them you listen to the communication you should be a shoe in also as well
if they ask you why do you need this job plus this money tell them then about you plans and goals like and how i explained earlier a little something like that
if they ask why jc penney a good reason, like you agree with the companey standards you shop theyre frenquentley and felt it would be a good place to work cause of youre frequent visits and or also
because it is near youre home whitche means you will always be on time and early and alway tell them you will be able to macke it on time and wil alsways show for work and will call in if you think you may be late and tell them that you have reliable transportation i guess i should of explained this earlier and also to them reliable transportatin is a must so if you know you can macke it on time evereyday and show up for work then you have reliable transportation to work even if it is the city bus
but to them i thionk reliable transportation means will you be able to macke it on time evereyday
but it doesnt mean you have to have a car you can walcke tacke the bus of course you shouldnt walcke if it is too far but still if you know you casn macke it on time evereday and show up fopr work then you have pretty mutche reliable transpiortation so if they ask you do you have reliable transportation say yes and yopu should do well for answering to them yes and if they ask you can you macke it on time and show up say yes and tell them also you know if you know that you migthe not be able to macke it you will call in atleast a day before but you will be sure to call in also
you will call and let them know you may be late if you feel you may be lat and this will be good for you to say at youre interview and just know if they ask you do you have reliable transportation even thougthe they may say this means you have a car or this means you got a ride but really im not sure how they tacke that question and what that question really means i know reliable transportatin means a reliable way to get to work so i guess even if you walcke ride a bicke tacke the bus really if you know youll mack it on time and show up youll be allrigthe if you tacke this advice and use it im sure i wanna say youll get the job or atleast a verey good chance well good luck and also show you are
and try to win them over with people skills and some good old fashioned charm just be youreself and do youre best and show thenm you are responsible hardworking intelligent and vibrant but if you ask
i think to ace the interview has alot to do with a persistent attitude an show them you ready to work and have and also i think when i use my charm or use some charm you know be youreself and feal good and stand tall be happy well good luck

Job Interview Questions: What is appropriate causal dress for a job interview?

I have a 2nd interview on Wed for a job. During the first interview I wore a dress shirt, dress pants, and a tie. When I was called to come back for a 2nd interview, the lady said that I could come casual. What would be appropriate casual dress for an interview? A dress shirt and jeans? A dress shirt and khakis? Or should I just continue with the dress shirt, dress pants, and tie?

Some Questions Astute Interviewers May Ask During the Job Interview Process

        Recommended Answer:
I would also recommend going with tan pants and a nice shirt. It can be a dress shirt or a solid colored polo style shirt. While they did say that casual was okay for the second job interview, it is still usually a good idea to not wear jeans. Good luck!

Job Interview Skills - How To Answer Job Interview Questions

        • When going to an interview its better to be over dressed than too casual. You want to show your possible future employer that u want the job and while the lady did say to dress casual, don't take it too far and wear jeans. Jeans are a big no-no.
I suggest you wear dress pants with maybe a long sleeve button down shirt or even a nice polo. Khakis could work too. Also make sure your finger nails are nice and clean and that are your clothing is not wrinkled, You wouldnt believe how picky some employers can be!
I Hope this helped, Good luck!!

        • She may have told you to dress casually because the dress code for the job is "business casual" and she wants to see what you think is appropriate to wear to work. Khakis and an oxford shirt or nice polo shirt would probably be appropriate. Don't show up for the second interview in jeans unless the job is yard work.

        • You don't necessarily have to wear a dress shirt; any nice, long-sleeved collared shirt should be fine, as long as its in a subdued color/pattern. Khakis would be perfect.

          Jeans are a "no".

        • Absolutely go more casual. But don't wear jeans. Khakis and a nice casual shirt like a polo. Wear a belt and make sure everything is clean and not wrinkled.

        • Don't continue with what you have been doing. Go with slacks/khakis and a dress shirt. Maybe pair it with a sweater over, if you have one. Don't wear a tie.

        • I think it is better over dressed than casual, not jeans,Khakis should be ok.good luck!

Job Interview Questions: What should I wear to my job interview?

I have a job interview today for a new burger place that is opening up in the mall. I want to look nice, but I don't want to overdress- i mean, it is just a burger place.

        What would you wear?

        p.s. I am a 17 year old female

The Top 10 Things You Must Do During a Job Interview

        Recommended Answer:
Since it's just a burger place and nothing over the top. I would wear a really nice looking shirt, blouse or something that's a bit more dressy than usual. Then for bottoms you could just go for something simple, a skirt, a pair of jeans (I wouldn't go for cut up ones) or even dress pants (but not necessary) For shoes I would wear a pair of flats or just anything that goes with the outfit you choose. If you choose to do something that is really undressy do something with your hair, makeup and jewelry so you look more presentable.

2 Simple Steps to Crushing Your Competition During Your Job Interview

        • There really isn't any overdressing for a job interview - you want to present yourself at your absolute best, no matter what the job is. I would recommend a nice button-up shirt and dress pants with clean, non-sneaker shoes, but of course it depends on what you have. Business casual is probably the way to go for most interviews.

Show in your dress that you take the interview seriously, even if it is 'just a burger place', and you are saying that you intend to take the job seriously as well.

        • When I was younger and worked for retail or fast food I would dress casual, but nice on my interviews. wear nuetral colors, if you have visibal tattoos try to cover them, no sneakers/tennis shoes, little accessories.

Here is a helpful website with more info:

          www.associatedcontent.com/article…

          Here is an example outfit:
          www.polyvore.com/job_casual/set?i…

          Good Luck!

        • Look at what the uniform might look like. Its usually black pants and a company polo. Wear Khaki color pants and a colored polo with shoes that match the outfit. A button up shirt would be too dressy for a burger joint.

        • just something that makes you look put together. Black pants are a must. Less jewelery. Light make-up. this looks professional.

        • wear nice jeans - no holes or rips in them - and a nice shirt - not a t-shirt. fix your hair - no ponytail. be a few minutes early. good luck!

        • if i were you i would wear abercombie shirt and jeans :)

        • A polo and a pair of khakis

        • a suit

        xoxo mly<3

Finishing and Leaving Your Job Interview

        • Well wearing hollister would show that you're interested in the company, so what those people said is right. I suggest something kind of casual but not too casual, something casual proffesional is how I'll put it. Something like dark skinny jeans (no rips or tears or any type of worn wear), black gladiator shoes (no jewels on em or anything too flashy, make em cute fashionable and classy), a cute flowy tank (you know, with the ruffles down the middle, I saw one at nordstroms, it should be a light color to blance out the dark jeans) and a classy blazer-like jacket over it (in nuetral tone color, should look good with the tank).. I hope this helped a little!

        • You don't have to wear hollister just try not to wear a shirt with a logo of another company written on it, they probably wouldn't like that. But you might want to try and get some hollister clothes b/c from what i've heard you have to either wear there clothes when you work there or something that looks like there clothes.

        • do you have to wear something from hollister? i know you do to work there but really.... why dont you wear a nice summery top, maybe hollister/a+f jeans, and some cute shoes

        • Whatever you do. Dont wear Aero OR American Eagle..
Wear Either Hollister Or Abercrombie [why abercrombie? b/c hollister is a branch of Abercrombie]
Borrow Some shirts from a friend if you dont have any..

        • Yeah if I were you I would buy some clothes from Hollister or borrow some from a friend. Just stick to Hollister shirt, jeans, and any flipflops. Good luck :)

        • U don't have 2 were stuff from hollister! Just were regular stuff like a t shirt & jeans but dont were a shirt that has a different companise logo!

        • banana republic, j.crew, or some preppy store like that. or google search womens nautical belts :)

        • what she said ↑

        • Hollister wants you to wear THEIR product. If you're looking for a job to actually MAKE money, this isn't it. You'll spend your whole paycheque on their clothes so you have something you can wear to work. I worked in high-end fashion retail for a while and it was a must that I wore the products. Since they weren't cheap (designer never is), I rarely made any profit. However, I do have a killer timeless wardrobe to show for it. If you're going to work in clothes then pick somewhere that sells clothes you'll wear in five years.
If you're trying to build up a wardrobe with a decent staff discount then Hollister is ok, but if you're looking to make money I'd try elsewhere.
Also, if you have any scent allergies run far far far away. Their perfume clouds are vicious.
Check their website and find their 'look'. Try to model it as closely as possible. If you don't own any Hollister shirts or pants that's fine. Just wear something that looks similar. Avoid clothes with words and labels printed clearly on them. Go for something preppy casual but moderately conservative. Too-short shorts and too-low tops belong on the beach, not the workplace.

Job Interview Questions: Can I take my kid to a job interview?

I have a 3 year old daughter that I would need to take with me to a job interview. I simply cant afford to pay daycare for going to job interviews and have nobody that could watch her during the day. If I get a job, then I could afford daycare and it would not be a problem. Not sure how a interviewer would react if I took her with me to meet them.

          Prepare For Your Job Interview

          Recommended Answer:
I know you're in a tight spot but think about it: you're hiring someone to do (whatever) and they bring their child, what would you assume about that person? Probably think "if they can't find someone to take their child for a hour interview, how are they going to find a babysitter while working here?"

I know you're saying that if you had a job you could pay for daycare, but that's like telling your boss you can't make it to the interview because you don't have a car but if they hire you could afford a car. It's a catch 22, all jobs are to some extent. Just getting a job isn't free, you have to have a way to get there, money to afford to show up for weeks until that first check arrives, proper clothing to wear, pay for a place to live while starting that job, pay for proper hygiene, etc.

Bringing your child to an interview puts you in the category of someone who doesn't have enough money to have a job.

the following is from the source link, and there's lots of other good advice on that page:

"Do not bring anyone with you, especially children. I don't know how many times I have interviewed someone that had a child with them - I even had one applicant start breast-feeding in the middle of the interview!!! I have also had applicants tell me that they were in a hurry because they left their child in the car - I refused to interview them until they found someone to watch their child. It is totally inappropriate to bring a child into a business - especially an office or manufacturing plant. Even if you are applying at a daycare facility, leave your child at home for the interview. It is equally inappropriate to have your spouse, family member or friend tag along. Even if that person works at the place that you are applying, you should go to your interview alone. The one exception to that rule - if the employer called both of you in, or if the employer is hiring for multiple positions and you are both applying. In that case, you need to make sure that the employer knows that you both have your own transportation to and from work."

Smiling Your Way to Success in a Phone Job Interview

          • depends ask them

          • Not the best idea.

          • Your application will be tossed in the trash as soon as you leave.

          • There is a dilemna , but could u possibly leave ur daughter with a close relative or friend for just an hour or so? I think that its much better to be one on one with your prospective employer, and bringing your daughter might bring on a negative connotation, despite your best interests and lack of someone to watch over her. In the last resort, you could discuss this with your interviewer, and I am not sure if they will be lenient enough to allow it. Again, they could view your daughter as an unfortunate distraction, that could make them choose someone else. Maybe your daughter could be left with the administrative assistant in a room while you are on the interview.

Good luck, may you have a career and not just a job. Wish u the best on ur interviews, God keep u.
