Interview Skills You Need To Succeed In a Job Interview
- Say something honest and respectful. Tell them something great about yourself but add in a little flaw so it sounds like your being truthful, which you are. If you are a perfectionist tell them that and that it can sometimes side track you. Or if you love people but it sometimes makes you talk too much. They will like a down to earth person who knows her strengths and weaknesses. They just want a genuine person. If you are willing to share a little bit they will feel more comfortable around you. Be yourself and smile too much. Also dont forget to shake their hand and look them in the eye. It leaves a huge impression. If they dont provide an oppurtunity to do that make your own.
- Focus on what your new employer wants and why you are the one for the job... Some really good tips in a US News and World report article published last week.
- don't mention it unless they ask. Talk about the positives of your previous work and if they ask the reason you left just mention casually and honestly that there was an issue between you and someone in your management.
- I wouldn't say anything about your relationship with your manager unless it is going to affect your reference. Interviewers get worried when they hear about poor relationships and will assume it is caused by something about you - personality or performance
- If you're making a lateral move, they will almost certainly ask why you're leaving your old job. Be prepared with an answer that doesn't put all the blame on your boss but doesn't make you appear difficult to work with.
