Job Interview Questions: Tips for a hands-on/ on-the-job interview?

I have a 4 hour interview this week. I passed the first group-stage and now I have a unique situation- it is an on-the-job interview.

Does anyone have any tips for me on this?

How to Prepare for a Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
OK, well good news then! You passed stage1, which is where you showed the basic skills they need you to show to be considered part of their team. Now on to the practical.

On the job interviews are often used by employers to see if you actually do have the skills you claim, and how you address the key core tasks of the job. They are used most often by:
    - creative arts and crafts employers, those where core application of skills and output is essential (ie: cooking, design)
    - team work is core to the job, such as in the military
    - high-brand employers, where the essentials of customer service and decorum are core to the brand. Harrods love them!

They are also used by companies seeking to employ executives, normally at a third stage once you have passed any initial tests and interviews, and socially meet key board members. As a small employer, we do this with all our potential new hires, giving them the opportunity to come and see how we work for a morning or an afternoon - that's the way it is sold to them, but it is really just an extended interview.

You need to look at the job advert again, and if you have time ask the employer for a copy of the job description. The advert is derived from the job description, and its your ability to undertake the core skills that are being assessed. You might want to undertake some practise (ie: hiring a baker, so bake some bread!), or some pre-thought (last minute creativity never works). Secondly, look at the companies website and public information, and see what type of culture they have: small and friendly, off beat, by the rules corporate? That's the second level of assessment, as in will you actually fit in with our team?

I have seen on the job interviews where by the employer exploits the job applicant, and asks them to do the job for the entire interview period. It is quite common in low paid jobs, such as waitressing, where by the employer gains a whole member of staff for free just by rotating a series of job applicants. They then ask for a third and fourth on the job interview, etc! If they ask you to do the job, do make sure that you are covered by their insurances - yes, specifically ask: hate to see a job applicant lose a finger or a life, or be sued by a customer. One on the job interview should be enough, and if you do the job for more than half the time then expect to be "paid" something, which in all likely hood will be a gift in gratitude as opposed to cash.

Make sure the interview has both process and purpose within their employment procedure, and if you are unclear about the outcome then call the HR contact and ask. These types of interviews often have multiple outcomes depending on the type of skill/application you show. For instance, if they like you but don't think you have the right level of skill, then you could be offered another (lesser) job - again, another not uncommon outcome.

In summary, be prepared to do what the core job description asks of you, and be aware that they will assess whether or not you are one of them. Practise core skills if necessary, and think about the types of work they could ask you to do. Make sure you know the duration and outcomes of the process, and be prepared for a formal sit-down interview at the end of the process; so have some questions prepared, and ask for feedback.

This as I said at the start is a good sign, so - Good Luck!

Job Interview Questions: Job interview Thursday - what should I do with my long hair?

I've got a job interview on Thursday and can't decide what to do with my hair - 4 inches past shoulders:

      1. Go to a salon have it trimmed and wear loose?
      2. As 1. but have it put up / ponytail
      3. Have it cut in to a Bob for a more professional look
      4. As 3. but go for a Pixie

Must admit that the idea of cutting my hair is pretty appealing!

      What do you think?

Tips For Job Interviews - Information You Need to Know

      Recommended Answer:
I spend a lot of my time interviewing and i would reiterate what somebody has already said ' all of the above are acceptable as long as you don't spend the whole interview either playing with your hair or pushing it out of your eyes'.

In that respect you may find certain Bob styles mean hair goes in your eyes when leaning forward as much as a long style.

One thing to consider: A few months ago I interviewed a girl with long hair which was styled so that it didn't go in her face. When she came back for a second interview her hair had been cut in to a really pretty, short pixie - I remembered her after this transformation and she ended up getting the job. In the current job market it's worth trying anything to make sure you are remembered!

      • I really like number 3 and 4, but I'd go with either a ponytail or a ballerina bun. Since it would be a job interview, you shouldn't really look so fashioned, unless it's going to be modeling or designing or something. Just simple yet elegant and pretty good-looking hairstyle.

      • What you do the night before is put a large smear of vaseline in your hair and back comb it. Leave it in overnight and your hair should be shiny and curly the next morning ;)

      • i think have a little trim, and get them to put it up in a pretty simple bun slightly to the side... very professional looking and elegant, don't cut your hair you will only regret it .. :)

      • either tie it up in a high pony tail r a bun .if u want to cut it, cut it but make sure to keep hair out of ur face cs that looks unprofessionall

      • If you don't want to get it cut you could always put it up into a smart looking bun.

      • Go fuh the ponytail make sure your hair is not in your face and smile ;)

      • dont bother cutting it, just put it up in a really nice ballerina bun

      • A job interview shouldn't stop one from making a DRASTIC change in their hairstyle, but if you have long hair teach yourself to style it up, to look more professional. Mine is down to my knees, and I can easily style it 7 different ways a week. Takes 2-10 mins. I've posted 27 in 11 months. There are so many inspirations out there: American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, PROM & fashion magazines. Just turn on the TV and find more inspirations, and try to see if you can incorporate their styles to yours. I use claw clips often, add fabric flowers. I make tons of those to help non-profit org.

I've had mine cut Princess Di's hair style once, it looked good on her, but because of my hair texture, HATED it on me.

The only advice I can give you? It's only hair. If you don't like the pixie cut or bob style, you can always grow your hair again. You'll never know how it looked on you, without trying it.

I am for long hair now. I had more problems and troubles with short hair, and I looked like a boy. I have sons, and I don't want to look like one of their sisters when I'm with them. I want to look more like their mom. My short hair is over, I had that all my grade school life and won't look like grade school or like all the Seniors @ the center - where I do volunteer work.

If you do decide to cut your hair shorter, make sure they're wrapped up saved in paper. I guarantee you, they will never be that long, healthy and color again.

Example of one who cut her hair too short:
ok,so my god mom is a beautician and just did my hair and cut it SO short it is exactly how i did not want it and school is tomorrow.

Job Interview Questions: Is this OK to wear to a job interview?

Suppose a woman (early 20's) was a cheerleader in high school, and she still has her uniform and it still fits her. Would it be OK to wear it to a job interview if she wears pantyhose with it?

Critical Mistakes To Avoid at Job Interview

      Recommended Answer:
Why would anyone consider wearing a cheerleader uniform to a job interiew? Definitely wear the pantyhose, but something a little more appropriate like a skirt or dress would be better.

      High Paying Job Interview Tips

      • If you just want to wear pantyhose during interviews then go right ahead. But try to put them with a professional-looking office/lawyer kind of outfit, or perhaps something you would wear to church or a wedding.
The cheerleader outfit may only be good for an interview with a place like Hooter's.

      • Why in the world would you even consider that? Of course, you don't say what type of position you are seeking, but it certainly wouldn't be appropriate for anything I can think of.

      • No it shows a childish mentality better suited to middle school

Job Interview Issues - How To Dress To Match The Interview

      Recommended Answer:
Take a deep breath and relax. Leave yourself time to get there 5-10 minutes early so you seem interested, and you'll be less stressed. It's not impressive to show up exactly at the time of the interview since they'll wonder about your punctuality (you never know whose watch is set 2 minutes ahead).

Body language and habits are very important. Hold yourself professionally and make sure not to slouch. Try to sit still and not engage in any distracting habits like playing with your hair, because the interviewer will focus on this. Practice shaking hands (firm but not overly strong) as this will be one of the first impressions you make.

Speak with confidence. Try to avoid using the word "like" or "um". Smile a lot and be genuinely cheerful. Make sure to answer the interviewers' questions without giving extra detail that could count against you (for instance, don't launch into a long story if that's not what they're asking). It helps to practice answering common questions (What's your best/worst quality? Why do you want to work here? Describe a stressful situation and how you handled it. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you google it, you should be able to find lists online).

      Good luck :)

slacks or dress pants or whatever u want to call them in a neutral color like black or navy. or a knee length skirt. a simple button down blouse in a neutral cream or white. sensible, conservative dress shoes. like a black dress flat or small chunk heel. nothing open toed, no stilettos, etc. pull ur hair back conservatively, like in a bun or something. don't wear too much makeup or perfume. any jewelry should be understated, tasteful and classy. no dangle earrings or plastic and string bracelets going half way up ur arm. the most important thing to wear is a smile and eye contact.

Job Interviewing Tips - Success Through a Thank-You-Letter

        • Being fifteen, you want to give your interviewers the impression that, while young, you are still professional and a hard worker. Employers worry that younger people aren't as willing to work hard, as stupid as that is! That being said, you should dress conservatively and in something that fits well-- not too tight (especially if you're larger) or too baggy. I would personally advise dress pants, and do make sure they're hemmed above the floor. Avoid khakis if you can, since those give off a more casual tone. Close-toed heels are good, but if you're a more comfortable person, some nice flats do the trick as well! You probably know what kind of top to wear-- something clean, nice, flattering. Jewelery is a nice touch, and so is a little bit of makeup. Mainly you just want to look clean and freshly-pressed.

More important than the clothes is the way you carry yourself, however, so remember that! Do fidget in your clothes and keep your posture straight. If you feel confident, you'll confident, and that's what they want. (; Good luck!

I do also advise searching some websites for some tips on dressing, just so you feel confident about your choices!

        • actually it depends on the company

if the company is a large company such as law firms, or even small companies but is business related go with a business attire which is comfortable, if you want to wear a skirt, the skirt shouldn't be very sexy

if the company is like a mini restaurant or other small firms just go smart casual

        • Always, with any job interview, one should wear business attire.

Guys, this means coat and tie. Ladies, a business suit.
you should dress to impress. The person giving the interview forms half of their opinion of you before you even say a word. Dress to impress.

        • Something cute and professional

        • buisness casual, button up collared shirt and kahki's

Job Interview Questions: What should one wear to a job interview to work at a 5 star hotel?

My brother got a call for a job interview and he said they told him to dress appropriately as if he was to work for the hotel. He said he's gonna wear part of his tuxedo, like the white shirt, tie, black vest, slacks, and dress shoes. I thought it was a little weird that he's gonna wear a black vest, it makes it too fancy. But maybe that's how it should be. Do you think it's good or what do you recommend?

Techniques To Avoid Job Interview Stress

        Recommended Answer:
While men may have less variety when it comes to workplace attire, they also are subjected to more stringent definitions of what is appropriate for the office. When it comes to deciding what to wear on an important interview, in almost every situation the more conservative the suit, the better the choice. Very few men can wear suits right off the rack, and you should always take your suit to a tailor to ensure that it fits you properly before wearing it on an interview.

        Navy Blue
Choose a two piece, solid colored, matched suit constructed from wool or a wool blend for your interview. Navy blue is a dark blue color. Do not wear a powder blue suit or a bright blue suit, or try to match your jacket with pants that are another color. Buy your pants and jacket together, so that you can ensure that they are exactly the same shade of navy blue. Unless you are interviewing for a job in a creative field such as graphic design, you should choose a jacket with two or three buttons. Four buttons may look too trendy and adding a vest looks ostentatious.

        Charcoal Grey
Charcoal grey is a dark grey color. For men, lighter colored neutrals such as dove grey and tan are seen as too informal for a job interview. Traditionally, black suits are seen as too flashy. Even though other men in the office may be wearing these colors, you need to wait until you are actually hired before you start experimenting with your look. At an interview, you want to be remembered for your qualifications and what you say, not how you look.

What to Wear with Your Suit
Choose a full-sleeve, button up shirt in white or light blue, even if it is summer. Wear a conservative silk tie that is no less than 3 1/4 inches wide. According to Career Builder, image consultants recommend a red tie for a navy blue suit or a burgundy tie for a grey suit. If you want to wear a tie with a pattern, choose a subtle pattern. Do not wear a tie with cartoon characters on it. Wear black socks that cover your ankles, and black leather shoes with a matching belt. Carry a briefcase or portfolio with you instead of a backpack or loose papers, and remove any jewelry other than a wedding ring or watch.Read more: The Best Color Suit for Men to Wear on Interviews | eHow.com www.ehow.com/list_6860795_color-s…

10 Job Interview Tips That Will Help You Make a Good Impression

        • As long as he wears a normal tie (tied with a Windsor or half Windsor knot) rather than a bow-tie then his outfit is fine, though slacks seem a little informal, he should wear formal trousers but not evening trousers (ie with a silk stripe and most certainly he should not wear a cummerbund or braces but a belt), he will probably have to dress similarly if he gets the job.

        • To any interview, you should wear a shirt, tie, suit jacket and pants. Not a tuxedo. That is prom. You wear a suit. First impressions are huge. They will probably tell you that you are overdressed, and they will tell you to dress down, but they will love to see that you are formally dressed. Works every single time. Wearing a suit shows class and sophistication.

        • He should wear black trouser (ironed) White shirt (ironed) black blazer (ironed) and a tie with a appropriate shoe, no trainer
