Job Interview Questions: What should I know for my first job interview?

I recently applied to several places, and got my first interview! It's a yogurt parlor/coffee shop. What should I wear? I'm thinking of wearing a knee-length dress or skirt. What makeup should I wear? I usually wear brown eyeliner, mascara, blotting powder, and blush. Would that be fine? Also, what should I know for the interview itself? Thanks in advance!

Job Interview Tip Number 1 is Preparation

Recommended Answer:
I say your makeup sounds great. I say go with the skirt. its nice, but not overly dressy. The interview itself depends, but they will usually go over your resume/application with you. Be yourself. Thats how i got my job at olive garden. When i had my interview with them, the manager asked me different questions to find out more about me. One of them was what was i passionate about. just be yourself, be polite. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Is Your Body Secretly Sabotaging Your Job Interviews?

  • There is an old saying that is still true these days - "dress for success"; meaning that you should dress very professionally, no matter what the position or company. Use as little makeup as possible, same for jewelry and perfume. Get some background info on the company - when they started, their annual sales, the most popular items, etc to show that you have an interest in the company and not just the job. After the interview, be sure to send a " thank you for the interview" email to the interviewer; this is courtesy and professionalism

  • Don't freak out or prepare too much for it. Just research the company, and be honest. Wear proffesional clothes- a skirt or dress is fine, but you can also wear dress pants and a nice tops. Above all, be polite! And always send a follow up email or thank you letter.

    Good luck!

  • Prepare all necessary documents needed for the interview - Resume, Cover Letter, etc. You will
always want to take along extra copies of your resume, transcript, and references. Consider purchasing a leather portfolio to hold your documents and a pen and paper to record notes, if need be.For assistance in critiquing your resume or cover letter, come by SMU Career Services and meet
with a career counselor during Counselor-on-Duty hours, or set up an appointment.
Plan your attire - First impressions are powerful, so you will want to look professional.
Some suggestions on professional dress for an interview are:
Suits/Dresses: Conservative, in dark colors (dark blue, black, gray, or tan)
    Shirts/Blouses: Simple, in soft colors
    Socks: Calf-length, complimenting the suit
    Stockings: Beige, tan, or natural
Shoes: Men - polished, should match suit; Women - polished, medium heels
Ties: Silk, coordinated with the suit
Handbag: Medium or small size, in a color matching the outfit
Hair: Conservative hairstyle that does not distract from professionalism
Jewelry: Men - no jewelry; Women - Simple jewelry

Job Interview Process 101 for First Time Job Seekers

  • youre right! you do need to present yourself well even if its casual and not suit and tie wear. It's better to be over dressed and show youre serious about your work then under dressed making them wonder.I suggest a nice ironed button down blouse, dress pants and slight heels or dressy flats. and stay clear of too much make up, accessories, or big flashy or trendy jewelry

Job Interview Questions: If you are in a job interview and they ask you what is your work ethic what would be a good response?

I am talking about any kind of job in general. Oh and also If they asked " what would you bring to our company as a employee if we hired you and why should we hire you"? what would also be a good response? I'm guessing these are the kind of questions you are asked at a job interview. I am looking into finding my first job.

A Guide To Common Job Interview Questions And Answers

Recommended Answer:
When asked about your work ethic, tell them work is your top priority. It's important to you as it helps you support yourself and your family; in addition, it gives you satisfaction helping others. In terms of what you would bring, that is really a loaded question. What the mean is: What will you be able to do for us! So focus your answer on what the job requires and the skills you have to fill that position. Always be flexible with your schedule as well... that let's them know you don't mind working overtime or weekends in case you are needed.

How to Prepare Yourself for a Job Interview

  • "I work hard when I enjoy the task. For example, I spent more time on my science project than any of my friends and my teacher complimented me on my professionalism. I think I would enjoy this job because.... and that would encourage me to work hard."

The second question depends on the job.
"I'm a good team player. For example, I showed up at every practice and I passed the ball to teammates. We placed second in the divisionals, in part because of my dedication and cooperation."

"I'm strong with details and deadlines. For my final history paper, I spent X hours in the library, Y hours organizing it, and an hour proofreading it. I received an A-."

It's a good idea to memorize answers like these so that you can respond easily to the questions. Even if the interviewer doesn't ask that exact question, you can often work it in.

Some people apply to jobs they're not sure they want first, to get practice interviewing. Or they get together with a friend and switch roles, pretending to be the interviewer and the interviewee.

    Good luck.

  • Try to downplay the fact your biggest skill is sitting in you're friendless, slathered in OXY10 and masturbating furiously to old episodes of Hanna Montana.

Job Interview Questions: Is it okay to go in 30 min-1 hour early to a job interview or service call?

We all know the opposite is true, because then you'd be late and look unprofessional. But if you came unexpectedly 30 minutes to an hour early to a job interview or customer service call, would that also be unprofessional? Even if you schedule an appointment for 10 and you call up the person around 9 saying that you're ready now, would that agitate the customer or businessperson? Or does it depend on the luck of how well they receive it?

Tips For Facing a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Don't go early. The purpose of an appointment is so the person can plan their day. Like this: I have an interview at 10. So from 8 to 9:30 I will work on A. I'll finish at 9:30, have time to have a cup of coffee and hit the bathroom, then prepare my interview materials for 10. Yikes, now the person comes in at 9:20. I am not ready for them. That is highly irritating. Then I won't get my coffee and bathroom break either. Man, now I'm mad. What inconsiderate dolt is this????
They cannot follow simple instructions! I am SO not going to hire them.

Job Interview - Best Prep Questions

  • it wont make a difference if they have other people to see then theyll see them before u and youll just look silly waiting for an hr.
u should turn up 10 mins beforehand to prepare urself but no earlier than that. if ur appointment is at a set time its because the manager is busy before then so u turning upo an hr ealy will just be annoying really!

  • Showing up more than 15 minutes off the scheduled time demonstrates two things the effected person will learn about you as first impression: (1) You cannot be trusted to honor the word you've given and (2) you care more about your agenda than theirs. In either case, you lose because you will never have another chance to make a good first impression.

  • To arrive an hour early would not be a good idea at all. Hanging around their lobby for an hour is just a unprofessional as turning up late. You should arrive 15 minutes early to an appointment. IF you do arrive eariler, wait till you go up to their office.

  • 30min-1 hour before schedule is too early. Arrive 10-15 minutes.

Job Interview Rehearsal - The Benefits of Mock Interviews

Recommended Answer:
If I were you I would wear khakis and a a simple cotton shirt or a nice polo.

In this situation you want to look nice and presentable but you don't want to over do it. This job will probably involve moving bags of groceries or stocking shelves, so you don't want to dress too formally in that it looks like you won't like doing the "dirty work" involved in the job task.

Good Luck!

The 5 Biggest Mistakes People Make in Job Interviews - And How You Can Avoid Them!

  • My personal opinion since it's a retail establishment is you can never go wrong wearing nice jeans (no holes, etc) and a nice top (sweater, button down, etc). If you wanted to one up it a little bit then I'd wear khakis and a nice shirt. But, I wouldn't overdo it. Sometimes it's good to dress according to their dress code, too. When I was in high school, I got a job at a hardware store, their dress code was jeans and a collared shirt, so, I wore a pair of jeans and a button down the front collared shirt. Good luck.

  • Whenever you go to an interview, you should be neat, clean and professional. It is best to dress one step up to the job you are interviewing for. If you can stop by your employer in advance, take notice of what the employees typically wear to work (not on casual Fridays, if they have that).

Nicely pressed khaki pants and a nice blouse would work with neat, closed toe shoes. Keep your hair and jewelry simple and no extra piercings or visible tattoos. Do not wear too much perfume/cologne as many people are allergic and you do not want to smother whoever interviews you.

It is more important to think about why you want to work there. Also, have some of your best traits ready to talk about. If you are looking at a job in a supermarket, they are looking for friendly, reliable, accurate and people-person types. You will come in contact with all types of people and you need to represent the company well.

  • I would dress somewhat dressy, like a nice shirt and dress slacks. It is not that this is what you will be expected to wear every day, but that you will look like you are more serious about getting the job and more interested.
