Job Interview Rehearsal - The Benefits of Mock Interviews

If I were you I would wear khakis and a a simple cotton shirt or a nice polo.

In this situation you want to look nice and presentable but you don't want to over do it. This job will probably involve moving bags of groceries or stocking shelves, so you don't want to dress too formally in that it looks like you won't like doing the "dirty work" involved in the job task.

Good Luck!

The 5 Biggest Mistakes People Make in Job Interviews - And How You Can Avoid Them!

  • My personal opinion since it's a retail establishment is you can never go wrong wearing nice jeans (no holes, etc) and a nice top (sweater, button down, etc). If you wanted to one up it a little bit then I'd wear khakis and a nice shirt. But, I wouldn't overdo it. Sometimes it's good to dress according to their dress code, too. When I was in high school, I got a job at a hardware store, their dress code was jeans and a collared shirt, so, I wore a pair of jeans and a button down the front collared shirt. Good luck.

  • Whenever you go to an interview, you should be neat, clean and professional. It is best to dress one step up to the job you are interviewing for. If you can stop by your employer in advance, take notice of what the employees typically wear to work (not on casual Fridays, if they have that).

Nicely pressed khaki pants and a nice blouse would work with neat, closed toe shoes. Keep your hair and jewelry simple and no extra piercings or visible tattoos. Do not wear too much perfume/cologne as many people are allergic and you do not want to smother whoever interviews you.

It is more important to think about why you want to work there. Also, have some of your best traits ready to talk about. If you are looking at a job in a supermarket, they are looking for friendly, reliable, accurate and people-person types. You will come in contact with all types of people and you need to represent the company well.

  • I would dress somewhat dressy, like a nice shirt and dress slacks. It is not that this is what you will be expected to wear every day, but that you will look like you are more serious about getting the job and more interested.
