Job Interview Questions: Is it ok to wear open toed shoes to a job interview?

The only outfit that I have that I feel is suitable is brown in color. But I only have brown boots and brown open toed dress shoes. The boots don't go with the outfit... I don't know what to do. I have black shoes, but the black outfit is not as professional looking as the brown.

  • YES you can wear open toed shoes, unless they are flip flops...I wore open toe flats to mine...and I still felt dressy.
The brown is good for fall, maybe put a gold or orange scarf of any kind with it...would color it up a bit...good luck!

ps:you can wear black shoes with a brown pants if you have either a white,or cream color blouse,,the fashion world is great these days!

Job Interview Questions: Do you take the drug test before the job interview?

I sent an application for a job yesterday (Nov 15 2010), and I was wondering if they call you for a drug test before calling you for an interview? I may be going to a party on Friday and if the drug test is taken before the interview, I don't want to risk losing this opportunity by drinking.

Tips to Boost Your Job Interview Confidence

    Recommended Answer:
Because drug testing is an expensive corporate expenditure, companies want to be certain the candidate is qualified before administering the drug panel. Once you are notified of the testing, you typically have 24 to 36 hours to submit to blood and/or urine testing, whichever they require. Do not under any circumstances consume even a glass of wine the night before. Common corporte thinking is that if you can't even refrine from drinking before a scheduled drug test, you may have a problem controlling your alcohol consumption.

Job Interview Advice Everyone Can Use

How to Dress for a Job Interview - Women
Perfect grooming is your first assignment when you interview for a job, whether you want to be a CEO or an entry-level factory worker. To a prospective employer, how you dress says a great deal about you.

1 Call the receptionist or secretary at the prospective employer's office for tips on what employees there wear.
2 Consider the job's location. If it's a library in a strip mall, you can wear a sweater and slacks. At a corporate office, wear a conservative business suit. A pantsuit with a sweater or blouse is appropriate for an informal office.
3 Choose between closed-toe shoes, pumps and loafers. If you are wearing a skirt, nylons are a must.
4 Avoid miniskirts, tight sweaters, sloppy overalls and sandals with straps.
5 Check your outfit for holes, tears, stains, scuffs or wrinkles.
6 Tone down the use of makeup, hair spray, perfume and jewelry. One nose ring is one too many and may cost you the job of your dreams.
7 Inspect your hair, nails, hems and the shine on your shoes.
8 Wear a silk scarf and carry a nice briefcase or portfolio. Leave the oversized, disorganized handbag at home.

If you click on the link below, there are other links at the bottom right hand side of the page that answer this same question about what to wear to an interview. Each author has their own version of what to do but there are some similarities that they all have in common.

Number 4 mentions dark colors. Basically, it is good to wear a dark colored outfit (black, brown or navy blue) with a white blouse or something like that. In the business world, those are known as "power colors."

I hope this helps you land your job. Good luck:)

    • Lol... well considering you didn't mention if you're male or female...

I would probably wear a nice polo, black slacks, a black belt and nice shoes (ie if you're a guy black dress shoes, if you're a girl dressy flats). Picture professional golfers. That's how you should dress. Its not over done and stuffy so it'll show you're approachable (important for the position) but still respectful and professional.

      GOOD LUCK!! =]

i would suggest something not to formal bu not to casual either

You probably don't even need a resume. As long as you're a competant young adult who can act professional then you're all set. Do bring two forms of ID withe at least one being picture ID, and your social security number as well. If it makes you feel more confident practice interview questions with someone. Guarentee they're going to ask something like "Why do you want to work here?" and "Give me an example of when you had to work on a team."

Job Interviews - What Makes a Great Interview Candidate?

      • Here's some prep tips:

-Make sure you know how to get there.

-Plan to arrive 10 minutes early.

-Dress professionally (nothing sexy, nothing trendy unless it's fashion career)

-Tonight, write a list of all your accomplishments. Also, write down times where you encountered a problem and what you did about it. That way during the interview, you can say that one time, you encountered this problem and you did this and this and then the result was this.

      • Talk to them like they are people, not robots. They don't want to hear that your weakness is that you're a perfectionist because they hear that all day long. Ultimately, people want to work with people they like and get along with. Show them that you have a positive attitude and that you are perfect for their team. All the best!

      • I am a Human Resource manager and used to be in the restaurant industry. Below is an article that should help.
On top of those tips, remember to leave your phone in the car, and definitely be early. Most interviewers are really trying to see if you will be a fit in their workplace so don't fret so much over the questions that they will ask. Personality is a huge factor, especially if you have never had a job before.
        Good luck!!!

      • Be prepared for the most common questions. Know what your weaknesses are and know how to explain why they are actually beneficial to the employer, this is a common trap. Practice answering some of these common questions to avoid sounding nervous. Be prepared and you will feel and appear more confident.

      • Dress your best! i suggest wearing like a blazer and a skirt, those professional and buisness looking ones. also wear glasses, i heard that people with glasses have a higher change of getting the job. if you dont wear glasses, but some fake ones that look real. dont act nervous, they may not want to hire nervous people. Be organized, bring everything your supposed too and be there on time. hope i helped!!

      • Dress nicely. Depending on the type of job (but if you have an interview it's probably formal) I would wear khakis or a nice skirt or something. Skip the jeans. Be calm and be yourself. Be honest, don't make up wild stories and say you can do things when you can't because it'll come back around.

        Good luck!

      • just avoid common interview mistakes.

      • just be urself and be confident in ur self
