Job Interview Questions: If at a job interview the interviewer says if I don't hear from him call him in a week is that good or bad?

He said he doesn't hire people on the spot so was that phrase just to blow me off or am I almost certain to have the job.? He gave me his office number to call him and he said he was going to see if anything matched my criteria. (I asked to only work nights)

The Values That You Should Have in a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Don't ever wait to hear from an employer. Yes, it is true for some employers that if they want you they will call but that only covers some circumstances. If you want the job, call him. If he says "call me back in another week", call him back in another week.

Be persistent. That doesn't mean be bothersome or agitate the guy. Just keep your face and name fresh in his mind so that when there is an opening, he will think of you.

If he said he was going to see if there was an opening that suits your need, he probably meant it. You don' t know what is going on in his restaurant or store or wherever you applied. He may have someone in mind who he wants to fire or maybe someone is going on leave of absence to have a knee replacement surgery and maybe that person works night shift and the manager has to find out when the employee is going on medical leave. There could be all kinds of reasons.

So your job is to call him next week as he requested. Since you don't have control over his actions or thoughts, all you can worry about is your part of the equation.

That's a smart manager who doesn't hire people on the spot and that's good for you also if you get the job because you don't want to work a place that has high turnover. That would mean that it isn't a good place to work or the pay is bad, etc and if the manager hires on the spot, it is only because he is not organized or always losing employees and can't keep up.

If he didn't mean what he said, he wouldn't have given you his office number. Call him but plan what you will say. Be professional and you will be fine. If he doesn't have anything for you, ask if it would be ok to call him back in a few weeks to see if there are opeinings.Believe me, all managers want a few good applications on file so that they can have someone to hire if needed.

Stay positive and be patient and be persistent and be confident and you will be successful! I don't understand why people answer these questions with negative answers. You get what you think you will get. A positive attitude and confidence is what it's all about. Remember that.

Best wishes to you in your NEW job!

Job Interview Preparation

  • I don't think this means much either way. All it really means is that he didn't think you were OMG BEST PERSON EVAR but he also didn't think UGH SUXXOR GTFO.

What *would* be bad is if you don't hear anything from him in a week, and then when you call, he tells you to call again in another week. The longer that goes on, the less likely it is that he's busy, and the more likely it is that he's one of those people who either hates making decisions (bad) or hates to give bad news (also bad).

  • Right now, it doesn't sound great. Not because he asked for a reminder, but because he said he was going to see if anything matched your criteria- that makes it sound like he would prefer someone who could work days to me.

Trust me, if they want you, THEY will call (usually within 3 days of the interview). I have never been hired on the spot in the professional world- it is usual practice in the business world. Fast food restuarants hire on the spot, not 'real jobs'

ok i have a job interview this friday and i dont know what should i wear..
can i wear a blue hollister jacket, blue jeans, and a jordan shoes that is blue/grey/white?
Am i able to wear jordan shoes, because i mostly have jordan shoes then anyother?
Is my job interview clothes ok or not?
    please help

    Job Interview Success

    Recommended Answer:
Dress very nicely for your interview.I hire people.I did not even consider one applicant because she was wearing jeans, and was late for the interview. How you present yourself is noticed.Wear your nicest clothes.Make sure they are clean.Shower, brush your teeth and hair.If you wear cologne, go light on it.Women and young girls should not be wearing cocktail dresses.Nobody wants to see a lot of cleavage. Not too short of a skirt or dress.Guys, don't wear your baggy pants that you wear hanging down to see you underwear.Save that for school or home. If you don't have any good clothes, do the best with what you have.I don't know what Holister is.If its the business, yes you may wear the jacket. Make sure clothes are tucked in, and you look neat.Make sure your Jorden shoes are clean. If a hand is extended to you, give a firm handshake.Good luck.

A Job Interview and the Ultimate Language Tool to Guarantee the Job Offer

    • well as you know, the interview is also based on looks/style, so you need to just wear casual. it's not professional at all! wear some hollister shirt... plaid, polo, tank with cardigan.. just NOT a logo shirt with "hollister" plastered across the chest. wear jeans (hollister, if you have jeans from there) and don't wear jordans! for shoes, they only allow flip flops, converse, and vans.

    • normally i would say dress proffessional but for this job you need to look the part. I wouldnt wear jordans, wear flip flops, and at hollister they ask that you wear red toe nail polish so thats what i would do. If its super freezing, wear cute boots, ask someone if you can borrow something if you dont have anything that works

Job Interview Questions: For a job interview at a clothing store...better to wear the store's clothes or dress professionally?

    A job at a store similar to pacsun/west 49/zumez...I'm a girl.

also, do I need to bring another resume and cover letter to the interview. The manager already recieved them through email..but do I need to bring extras.

    I would dress professional

Job Interview Skills - How To Answer Job Interview Questions

    • Dress professionally, like you give a damn about them giving you the job. You don't have to go the whole way but smart trousers (not jeans) and a shirt would be a safe option. And yes it's always a good idea to bring a copy of your resume and the cover letter, so at least you can refer to these if there are any problems.
      Good luck!

    • dress like Lady Gaga

    • stores clothes for sure. they dont expect u to be professsional because lets be real here its freaking pac sun

    • I think you should wear the store's clothing because I have a friend who works at Hollister, and he was telling me that when I go to the interview to wear Hollister clothes and act happy and all that other good stuff. So I would wear their clothing to the Interview. Plus when you get the job, you're going to have to wear their clothes, so you should wear them there so that they see that you're taking the affirmative. :)

Job Interview Questions: Should I wear a suit for Job interview?

Should I wear a suit or blazzer to job interview in the summer time? (as in this month)
    or
Should I wear a shirt and tie only with no blazzer?

It's for sales/marketing for sports arena. (little detail)
Any suggestion would be great. Thank you

A Guide to the Most Evil Job Interview Questions

    Recommended Answer:
It depends on what kind of company it is. If it's like a huge one dealing with lots of important clients then then blazzer will be a great idea.

If not you can ALWAYS look very classy and proffesional and smart in a Plain crip white shirt, red tie and Nice black pants. VERY nice.

Good luck with ur interview btw :)

Job Interviews - What Am I Doing Wrong?

    • Always dress a notch above the company's dress code. Even if it's a casual environment err on the side of caution.

      Here are some additional tips:
      1. If you know someone at the company, call and ask them what you should wear
      2. Check out the company's website. They may state it there. It also helps build upon your research for that particular company.

Traditionally, you are to wear a business suit however in this day and age some organizations may have a certain corporate culture they would like to maintain. So make sure you have all your facts about that company prior to the interview.

    • think about how current employees dress for work. I say you should always look your best on a job interview no matter the weather, you can always change once inside the building if its too hot outside.

What To Do And Not To Do In A Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
well i do have job experience in being a salesman at radioshack, a telemarketer sales agent over the phone selling health coverage, and being a waiter whitche i have learned strong communication skills so my strongest advice to you is this and if you use these tips you should be a shoe in
    you must appear presentable
smile and be happy show them you have enthusiasm apeear with lighte attitude but also seriouse and about buissnes responsibilty and ready to work
if you are young and this is youre first job and they ask why do you need this money and this job tell them aboutr youre goals and youre plans and responsibnilys for youre not to distant future but be also realistic and dont show them you are planning to ahead but also show them that you do have youre eyes straigthe forward and ready to work and that you are responsible but do not tell them too mutche about youre personell life just what mainly has too do with the job and try too really get along and be vibrant and also life licke
and also you can tell them that you are familiar to the store or the name brand of the store if you are
then that would be the truthe then they would know that you are not exactgley new tro the company and alreadey kn ow kinda what to expect from the company well from the custmers point of view and they willl figyure you can learn the workers point of view as well being that you are alreadey used to the company being that you are and were a frequent visitore
so you can not really tell them to mutche with no experienc but if you show them you are
    ready to work
a person readey to communicate with customers if needed and listen to the manager
and show them you are kind,, smart friendly, and vibrant, show them you listen to the communication you should be a shoe in also as well
if they ask you why do you need this job plus this money tell them then about you plans and goals like and how i explained earlier a little something like that
if they ask why jc penney a good reason, like you agree with the companey standards you shop theyre frenquentley and felt it would be a good place to work cause of youre frequent visits and or also
because it is near youre home whitche means you will always be on time and early and alway tell them you will be able to macke it on time and wil alsways show for work and will call in if you think you may be late and tell them that you have reliable transportation i guess i should of explained this earlier and also to them reliable transportatin is a must so if you know you can macke it on time evereyday and show up for work then you have reliable transportation to work even if it is the city bus
but to them i thionk reliable transportation means will you be able to macke it on time evereyday
but it doesnt mean you have to have a car you can walcke tacke the bus of course you shouldnt walcke if it is too far but still if you know you casn macke it on time evereday and show up fopr work then you have pretty mutche reliable transpiortation so if they ask you do you have reliable transportation say yes and yopu should do well for answering to them yes and if they ask you can you macke it on time and show up say yes and tell them also you know if you know that you migthe not be able to macke it you will call in atleast a day before but you will be sure to call in also
you will call and let them know you may be late if you feel you may be lat and this will be good for you to say at youre interview and just know if they ask you do you have reliable transportation even thougthe they may say this means you have a car or this means you got a ride but really im not sure how they tacke that question and what that question really means i know reliable transportatin means a reliable way to get to work so i guess even if you walcke ride a bicke tacke the bus really if you know youll mack it on time and show up youll be allrigthe if you tacke this advice and use it im sure i wanna say youll get the job or atleast a verey good chance well good luck and also show you are
and try to win them over with people skills and some good old fashioned charm just be youreself and do youre best and show thenm you are responsible hardworking intelligent and vibrant but if you ask
i think to ace the interview has alot to do with a persistent attitude an show them you ready to work and have and also i think when i use my charm or use some charm you know be youreself and feal good and stand tall be happy well good luck

Things to Do in a Job Interview

There isn't a list of correct answers that'll magically get you hired if you answer them right. It's based on how your interview goes, the manager's impression of you, your resume/application among other things.

I will tell you this. Kohl's is the same as most retail stores, so answer honestly.

For example: "If you saw an employee stealing . . ." -- That's pretty obvious how'd you'd answer that.

      Good luck.

Finishing and Leaving Your Job Interview

      • Well wearing hollister would show that you're interested in the company, so what those people said is right. I suggest something kind of casual but not too casual, something casual proffesional is how I'll put it. Something like dark skinny jeans (no rips or tears or any type of worn wear), black gladiator shoes (no jewels on em or anything too flashy, make em cute fashionable and classy), a cute flowy tank (you know, with the ruffles down the middle, I saw one at nordstroms, it should be a light color to blance out the dark jeans) and a classy blazer-like jacket over it (in nuetral tone color, should look good with the tank).. I hope this helped a little!

      • You don't have to wear hollister just try not to wear a shirt with a logo of another company written on it, they probably wouldn't like that. But you might want to try and get some hollister clothes b/c from what i've heard you have to either wear there clothes when you work there or something that looks like there clothes.

      • do you have to wear something from hollister? i know you do to work there but really.... why dont you wear a nice summery top, maybe hollister/a+f jeans, and some cute shoes

      • Whatever you do. Dont wear Aero OR American Eagle..
Wear Either Hollister Or Abercrombie [why abercrombie? b/c hollister is a branch of Abercrombie]
Borrow Some shirts from a friend if you dont have any..

      • Yeah if I were you I would buy some clothes from Hollister or borrow some from a friend. Just stick to Hollister shirt, jeans, and any flipflops. Good luck :)

      • U don't have 2 were stuff from hollister! Just were regular stuff like a t shirt & jeans but dont were a shirt that has a different companise logo!

      • banana republic, j.crew, or some preppy store like that. or google search womens nautical belts :)

      • what she said ↑

      • Hollister wants you to wear THEIR product. If you're looking for a job to actually MAKE money, this isn't it. You'll spend your whole paycheque on their clothes so you have something you can wear to work. I worked in high-end fashion retail for a while and it was a must that I wore the products. Since they weren't cheap (designer never is), I rarely made any profit. However, I do have a killer timeless wardrobe to show for it. If you're going to work in clothes then pick somewhere that sells clothes you'll wear in five years.
If you're trying to build up a wardrobe with a decent staff discount then Hollister is ok, but if you're looking to make money I'd try elsewhere.
Also, if you have any scent allergies run far far far away. Their perfume clouds are vicious.
Check their website and find their 'look'. Try to model it as closely as possible. If you don't own any Hollister shirts or pants that's fine. Just wear something that looks similar. Avoid clothes with words and labels printed clearly on them. Go for something preppy casual but moderately conservative. Too-short shorts and too-low tops belong on the beach, not the workplace.

Job Interview Questions: What can I do to get a job interview?

I apply to several jobs a week but only seem to get jobs that don't do employee background checks (factory, work study). I have had 2 legitimate job interviews in the last year. I have had several jobs, am ineligible to work for 2 previous employers and lived in several places. I was wondering if this is a red flag to employers. My resume is polished and I call employers to check my application status but I never get called back. What can I do to improve my chances of getting an interview?

Techniques To Avoid Job Interview Stress

      Recommended Answer:
      Hi there,

Your resume is you presentation face to employers. There are a lot of strategies that you can apply and how you apply them will make the difference on getting you the interview or not.

For example, you need to be concise and focus on the important stuff. Be honest and direct.

From the Eyes of a Job Interviewer

      • Work tenure can be a problem. Usually if I see that someone hasn't worked in the last six months, I won't hire them unless they have a really good reason. Also, if I see they did a lot of different jobs then I may not use them...it just depends what your resume looked like. If on average you are doing about 24 months per job...then you are doing well. But if you worked here for a month and there for 6 months and there for 2 weeks...that is not good.

So if the work tenure is not good, it'll be more difficult to find work. If you have gaps, it'll be harder. All you can do is keep trying.

      • It's critical to have a excellent resume, it is worth taking the time to compose something that looks really awesome and does the job well. The website in the box below has plenty of data on resumes and help with other professions.

      • Here are common mistakes that are common on resumes. Try to check if yours has any of them.

        Overused resume template
One of the top resume mistakes ever. People using generic word processing templates in creating their resumes and even using the generic greetings and salutations. It is not necessarily frowned upon to use these templates, but it really doesn't help your resume to stand out from the rest. If you must use these templates, then at least edit it. Include some content and formatting to make it unique and your own.

        Prioritizing and arrangement
Some resumes bury important accomplishment and skills in favor of mainstream formatting. Applicants sometimes place their skills and accomplishments at the bottom of the page. If you are applying for a certain job that requires certain skills, then it is important that you let them know you have the qualifications.

        Putting in Personal Information
The placing of personal information is a big mistake on resumes. Including your eye color, height, favorite food or hobbies is irrelevant and unnecessary. It will be trash and gibberish to hiring managers. Write down what matters like your achievements and not your favorite movie or that you're the president of your town's ping-pong club.

        Length of resume
There are those people who choose to right down every details of their previous employment thinking that quantity of experience and skill would eventually win them the position. Let me tell you that hiring managers who receive a nine page resume generally only go over the first page only. On average, they only spend around 20 seconds in scanning resumes of potential applicants in their selection process. So it is imperative that you make your resume short and concise and prioritize important information first and place them on top.

        Previous experience and employers
It is required that you put your previous position and employer on your resume, it would be a resume writing mistake if you don't, but hiring managers would prefer it if you could also include some important information about your previous company like their phone number, website, or just what they are about. This would save them time in researches what your previous company is. Another important thing is to write down your position first then the company name, instead of beginning with the date of employment, this will make your resume more effective in catching the hiring manager's attention.

        Keywords
It is a big resume mistake if you do not include keywords and a few jargon on your resume. The keywords are important because a lot of companies, especially large corporations, incorporate the use of hiring software to sift through resume databases for specific keywords they are looking for. By placing important keywords for your specific industry is best to convince the companies programs to select your resume, convincing the hiring manager on the other hand is another story.

        Electronic formatting and Attachments
When sending your resume through email or through attachments there are times when your formatting will not be seen as the same on the other end. This may result in hinder the person on the other end from reading your resume at all because of the mistakes on your resume. So it is important that you try to send your resume to a friend's computer first to make sure that your document looks the same on both ends.

        Resume is not bulleted
This is pretty much self explanatory, most resumes contain lists of items such as achievements or tasks completed and these items are separated by commas or just spaces. This can be very difficult to read and doesn't really highlight the items you want to show. Always use bullets to showcase the lists you want the reader to notice.

Submitting to positions you're not qualified for
Wishful thinking sometime make us assume that we are capable of doing a certain job, commonly it is best practice to research on a job first before trying to apply for it. So apply for a job that you know you can do, and avoid submitting your resume just for the sake of submitting it, because frankly, you'll just be annoying the hiring personnel and wasting their time.

        Proofread, proofread and repeat
Always and always proofread your resume, and even let someone else read it for you. Make sure that you avoid grammatical errors on your resume. Run your resume through a spell checking program on your computer. Minor errors in grammar and spelling can really look bad on your resume; this only tells the hiring manager that you are not focused and concise as a person. Make sure that your dates, numbers, email addresses and other information are accurate.

Job Interview Questions: Can I wear a short sleeve skirt suit to a job interview?

I have a job interview today and would typically wear a long sleeved skirt suit. However, It is 85 degrees out and I don't want to be uncomfortable. I have a very professional short sleeve skirt suit that is black with pin stripes. I didn't know if it would be unprofessional to wear short sleeves to an interview or if it is ok because of the weather.

Job Interview Tips That Lead to Job Offers

      Recommended Answer:
If it looks professional and you look professional wearing it, then yes, it's OK.

If it's way too tight, and you have large chunks of your body hanging out, then NO.

Employers are human as well... and know what to wear according to the weather.

Good luck with the interview, I hope you get the job.
