Job Interview Questions: I have a job interview tomorrow morning, what is the right etiquette to cancel at the last min?

Spoke to the interviewer on the phone and I really didn't like her. I am getting a bad vibe and it feels like somebody I wouldn't get along with.

How can I reject them without offending them? I have already called up once to reschedule. :(

No Time To Prepare For The Job Interview?

Recommended Answer:
Just go and get the interview practice. It's a little late to cancel and the more opportunities you get to practice with interviewers that make you uncomfortable, the better. You don't have to take the job if you don't think it's for you. And you might be surprised, you might like her and the job. Sometimes initial impressions are wrong.

Job Interview - 4 Ways to See Yourself as Job Interviewers Do

  • call them first thing and apologize for the inconvenience and then explain that you dont feel like you are suited for the position.

  • With an attitude like that you will be looking for work for a long time. It's not important to like the interviewer. It's important to impress her and get the job. Show up for the interview. Prove to yourself you can get the job if you want it. Good luck

  • I would call them and tell them that you will not be coming to the interview as....my circumstances have changed, but thank you very much. If they ask you why (they are just being nosey which is not professional), just say ... that is really not relevant at this point, but again thank you for your interest in me. Then hang up.

I don't think you should use this as a "practice interview". Because of the fact that you already do not care for this person at all, it would actually turn out to be a very "bad experience" which would not help your self esteem by any stretch of the imagination.

Remember, you are under no obligation to go to the interview, anymore than they could change their mind on you at the last minute also! Go with your guy feelings!
    Best to you,
    Andie

  • Great. By speaking with one person on the phone, you don't think you'll get along. You don't really want a job, do you? Don't even bother to make an excuse, just call and cancel the interview. Thank them nicely for the consideration and be done with it.

Job Interview Questions: Does withholding information about deafness during job interview mean I am being dishonest?

I am late deafened and have been having issues finding employment since becoming deaf. I never had issues before being deaf. I made sure to inform all potential employers beforehand in which I received no interviews. I now withhold the information about my deafness and I am getting tons of interviews. My plan is to provide information about my deafness after receiving job offers so that I can have a fair chance. I'm kind of at a crossroad as to how to go about this.

Useful Tips in Handling Job Interviews

    Recommended Answer:
There is absolutely no need to disclose beforehand, since like in the past had trouble getting your foot in the door for an interview. The hardest part is getting the interview to sell yourself in person.

But at the interview, you should disclose it, since now you are in person and could state that per your interview you were able to understand and comprehend the qualifications that is required for this particular job and since you are getting a lot of interviews now, appears that you might have something "special".

But as you stated in a prior question, you were offered a job and only disclosed this after the offer was made, which might put some employers "uneasy" not because of possible special circumstances, but if you did not disclose this, what else have you not disclosed?

There maybe some employers out there that even if you "wow" them in the interview and tell them might be scared off, but to tell them that you wanted to prove to them that your deafness will not affect your job performance, only that you might need a little help.

    good luck

Questions to Ask During a Job Interview - Make Sure You Cover These!

    • I am not certain where you live, but as someone who hired people for many years AND has a disability myself, I know that you may be violating the law in the U.S. You should be provided with a job description for any job for which you apply here. The job description should list any *essential functions* of the job. If hearing is NOT listed as an essential function, yet it seems to be an essential function when you read the rest of the job description, I feel that it is then your job to ask if it is an essential function. At the interview, legally (unless the company's funding requires they hire people with disabilities, such as at Centers for Independent Living), they are only allowed to ask whether you "can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation." I don't know if you can get through the interview without accommodation, or what field you are looking for work in, but hearing is a pretty significant skill in most jobs. I think you have to disclose it.

    • It is a toss up.
Employers are required by federal law to provide any equipment necessary for an employee to do a job.
Being deaf, someone will have to tell you when the work buzzer goes off to start work, take breaks and go home as well as any alarms (storm, fire).
I do not think you have to disclose the fact that you are deaf before the interview.

    • If your deafness is not obvious to the interviewers, I see no reason to disclose it. That's not illegal.

I suppose under the odd circumstance that they actually ASKED you if you are deaf, and you said "No", that might be illegal. Otherwise, what information you provide at the interview is completely within your control.

    • yes

Job Interview Questions: What is appropriate attire for a job interview at the Hat Shack?

It's a part time job in the mall. Should I really get dressed up or will a nice t-shirt and shorts be a passing grade?

    Job Interview Skills

    Recommended Answer:
What are the employees wearing at the Hat Shack? This should be your guide... if they are wearing a nice t-shirt and shorts, do the same. If they are wearing hats and blue jeans, do the same. The most important thing to wear is a great smile :)

No Time To Prepare For The Job Interview?

    • Never wear shorts to an interview!!! That is highly unprofessional and shows an employer that you are not serious about the job.....Since the company is a bit more laid back, I would suggest wearing business casual. Wear a nice pair of khaki slacks or pants. Instead of a t-shirt, wear a nice button down shirt. You don't want to over dress, but you don't want to look like a slouch either..

      Good luck on your interview!

    • Wear a polo shirt (with no markings or designer logo's), pair of khaki's and some casual shoes. Never wear t-shirts or shorts to an interview and especially flip flops and sneakers.

Job Interview Questions: Is it legal to ask in a job interview that one is home owner or renting?

is it legal to ask in a job interview that one is home owner or renting? I have been asked by some companies this questions directly and by some indirectly. Some recruiter has suggested me that I should always say "renting" as it looks to companies that one can easily move then.
    Thanks

HOW to Answer Job Interview Questions

    Recommended Answer:
It is not illegal to ask. I would recommend being honest. It is an easy enough fact to verify by an employer as they have your home address and can easily look up the public record to determine who owns the property. So, I would just tell the truth. You could always give a further explanation that says something like "I own my home but have the flexibility to sell for the right opportunity".

What Colors To Wear To A Job Interview

    • No it is not illegal, it is a question they can ask. It is not better to say that you are renting as most companies that want to move you would help you sell your home and buy a new one in the new location.
Generally if someone rents rather than owns it may show issues in their personal life such as bad credit or fiscal mismanagement (an unfair stereotype perhaps, but true non-the-less) whereas if you own it shows a level of responsibility that employers are looking for.

    • Why would that be illegal??? What CRIME did they commit? Owning a home shows someone who is grounded. A renter shows someone with mobility. Neither is worse than that other. It just COMPLETELY depends on what the company is looking for. If they are seeking someone who is open to relocating, then the "renter" is the better candidate. If they are looking for someone who they want to fill a position for the next 10 years or so, then the home owner is better.

Asking is a person owns a home or not is NOT the same as asking about their religion, or ANY other protected classification. HUGE difference in fact.

Job Interview Questions: Job interview - sales merchandiser?

I currently work in retail (department manager).

Ok, so I have a job interview tomorrow with Pauls, an Australian milk / dairy company. The position I am going for is sales merchandiser. It is casual 28 - 35 hours / week. What sort of questions do they usually ask for a role like this?
    What should I prepare for?

So far, I have done some research into the company (who owns it, where they distribute, what they sell, etc). Also, I have answers to "why are you leaving your current job", but what else would they be likely to ask me?

Please help me out here, I really would like this job.

    Thanks,

Why Should I Hire You? Job Interview Question and Answers

    Recommended Answer:
    Hi Martin. This will help:

    Interview Techniques

    General Tips & Advice

Before your interview find out everything you can about the company. Keep a copy of your application and re-read it before the interview and think through your own career and the questions they might ask you. You should try to anticipate the general questions which they will ask and also prepare some questions to ask them. (See below)
To do well at the interview you will need to convince the interviewer you are sufficiently qualified to do the job. You will also need to show that you are motivated enough to get the job done well and that you will fit in with the company's organizational structure and the team in which you will work.
You should dress smartly for the interview and should leave home earlier than you need to on the day of the interview - you may be delayed by traffic or for other reasons. Be courteous to all employees of the company. At the interview itself you must be positive about yourself and your abilities - but do not waffle.

    Questions to Ask at Interview
The interview is a two-way process. The company interviewing you will want to find out whether you are suitable to the position and you will want to find out if the company and position are right for you. You should therefore ensure that you have enough information to make up your mind whether you want the job. For example:
    •What will be my responsibilities?
•Where will I fit into the overall organization?
    •Who will I report to?
•Where does he/she fit in the structure?
•Who, if anyone, will report to me?
    •How experienced are they?
•What do you expect me to do in the first 6 months?
•What level of performance do you expect from me?
    •Who are your customers?
•Where is the company going? Expansion plans?
•What are the chances of advancement/promotion in this position? When?
•What will be my salary, benefits and bonuses? [Do not bring this up too early in the interview - wait until they are sold on you.]
•Will travelling be required in this position?
•Will relocation be required now or in the future?
    •What training do you provide?
•When will you decide on the appointment?
    •What is the next step?

Questions you might be asked on interview day

•Tell me a little about yourself.
•Explain a situation in which you were working with a negative person. How did you handle it?
•What was your most favourite class in college and why?
•What was your least favourite class in college and why?
•Who was your favourite professor in college?
•What type of work did you do at your former employer (internship).
•How would you describe yourself (e.g. Are you hardworking, intelligent, etc)?
•Maybe some technical questions related to the job.
•What do you know about our company? How do you think you can help us achieve our goals?Interview Body Language

When you are being interviewed it is very important that you give out the right signals. You should always look attentive - so do not slouch in your chair. Never lie to anyone in an interview, your body language and tone of voice or the words you use will probably give you away - classic body language giveaways include scratching your nose and not looking directly at the other person when you are speaking to them. If you have a moustache you may want to consider shaving it off - people with moustaches can be perceived as being aggressive. You can always grow it again once you have got the job. Do's and Don'ts

•Being unprepared for the interview - you should always prepare thoroughly before any interview (this will also make you feel more confident at the interview).
    •Poor/limp handshake - always a bit of a no-no. Practice with a friend.
•Saying unfavourable things about previous employers - the employer will be wondering what you will say about them if you leave their employment.
•Being aggressive or acting in a superior way - nobody like this so don't do it.
    •Making excuses for failings.

Good luck on the day, Bob

Job Interview Questions: Any tips on a job interview at a credit union?

OK, I have a job interview at a Credit Union this afternoon for a Member Services Rep position. I really want this job. I hate my current job. I can never do anything right in my bosses' eyes. I feel like I'm being treated like a child, and the pay is just terrible. Any suggestions for my interview this afternoon? I previously worked at a grocery store as a cashier and loved that job. I love handling money. Anything I can say or do at my interview to insure I get the job?

        Job Interview Mistakes!

        Recommended Answer:
Member Service Reps are the "face" of the credit union to the public. The CU is looking for someone who is friendly, helpful, and competent. They want someone who will "go the extra mile" for its members. If you can give an example or two of how you have gone above and beyond in your current or previous jobs, that will be helpful.

One of the key points about credit unions is they serve members, not customers. Since credit unions are financial cooperatives, the people who deposit money are member-owners, not customers. Essentially, the members are your boss. Try to use the word member in place of customer -- it will impress the credit union because most people don't know there is a difference.

If you have a few minutes, go to the credit union's website and read the "about us" section. It will help you understand more about the credit union. If you have a few more minutes, go to cuna.org and read a little about credit union history.

        Hope this helps. Good luck!

          Recommended Answer:
i would recommend flats since they are a lot more comfortable to walk in, or maybe go for a kitten heel. as for the clothes try a summer semi-formal dress. something that makes you look (and feel) confident. pair it with a blazer to give it a more professional look, and try on both heels and flats to see which one looks better. good luck(:!!
