Weird Job Interview Tips: 2009 Psychology Study Reveals Truth Behind First Impressions

  • They won't call you for an interview if they already know that they don't want to hire you. For instance, you didn't do well on the pre-screen questions, you're availability isn't what they are hiring for, etc. However, just because they call you doesn't mean they will hire you either. It just means on paper you looked good. However, how you show up for the interview is the most important part. Show up clean, and dressed nicely (nothing too fancy, but not just jeans either...Khakis and a nice shirt would be fine)...Make sure you are on time, and smiling. Take off extra jewelry, and keep your hair simple and clean. Be friendly! Answer all the questions as honestly as you can, don't just give them the answers they want to hear. Couple of things you might want to say, are that you are willing to learn new things, you want to learn to do both grill and counter, you love working with people as part of a team, you like interacting with people (customers), you are a quick learner, you are looking for steady employment (aka you want hours and you plan on being there for a while), you have a flexible availability (you can work lots of different shifts), you take pride in showing up as scheduled and can take extra shifts sometimes and you are professional (you will show up clean and neat for work with a good attitude)...Good luck :)

Job Interview Questions: How long does it usually take for an employer to call you about a second job interview?

I went to a "group" interview that consisted of quite a few people. We were given 5 minutes for an individual screening. The employer said that he would call us back for a second interview that would be in more depth. How long does it usually take for an employer to call you back for a second interview?

The Job Interview - Tips For Winning Your Interviewer Over

    Recommended Answer:
The amount of time companies take before calling for a second interview varies. You can never guess when they will call so it's always best to be prepared ahead of time.

    1. Remember that this is not the time to be complacent. The second interview is as important as the first and you want to prepare it thoroughly just like the first one.

    2. Be prepared to meet your potential boss as this is usually the opportunity they take to see their short listed potentials.

    3. Remember that this interview may require you to answer some questions previously asked in the last interview, but this time in more depth.

    4. Be prepared also to answer specific and possibly personal questions during this time.

    5. The interviewer may want some clarification to questions in the first interview, so be ready to give specific answers.

    6. Be prepared to answer questions that deal with your ability or past performance with your past employer.

    7. When the interview is conducted in a social setting, say a pub, ensure that you do not let your guard down and act unprofessionally.

    8. It is also wise to review your performance in the last interview and identify situations that caused difficulty.

    9. Try to remember what made you stand out and appealed to the interviewer and do more of that.

    10. Try to gather more information like new examples, accomplishments and more of your abilities that were not mentioned in the first interview and have them ready in case you want to use them.

    11. Do more research about the company. One of the best ways to do this is to talk to insiders about the company.

    12. Anticipate to be interviewed by more than one person and thus bring along ample copies of the resume for all your interviewers.

    13. Find out if a tour of the workplace will be offered during the interview and if not, request if you can be showed around.

    14. Fourteen, get plenty of rest and sleep prior to the interview day.

    15. Look out for opportunities to refresh during the interview as this will give you the enthusiasm, energy and confidence not to steam out toward the day's end.

    16. Do not wear sloppily or casually for the interview. If unsure about the dressing, ask an insider.

    17. Since the second interview usually tries to see how you will fit into the company, try to fit yourself there.

    18. Deploy your communication and interpersonal skills to the best as these will be more prioritized.

    19. Twenty, engage in chit chat with other people like the receptionist as this will make you feel a part of the organization and make a good impression.

    20. Plan to be consistent in your answers with the first interview while keeping them fresh.

    21. Research on the interviewers and try to tailor your answers to them.

    22. Be prepared to ask more questions than in the first interview.

    23. When asking questions, make them more sophisticated with an attempt to make a personal connection.

    24. Finally, send another thank you note to the interviewers and reiterate your interest in working for the company.

    High Paying Job Interview Tips

    • I see this question asked all the time. Unfortunately. The answer is that the interviewer should have made it very clear as to when and how you would be contacted for te second interview. If they did not then they failed at their own job. I can only hope you do hear back but all to often the 'non-selected' candidates hear nothing. I cannot tell you exactly how long they may take to respond but 2 weeks should be max. After that any good candidates would be taking other jobs!. Next interview, if they don't make it clear, ask specifically how and when will I be informed about the results of this interview. It's a good question and will be well accepted and answered by any half decent interviewer. Best of luck in your job search

    • It's hard to say. I read that you should ask the interviewer how long is the interview process and even when you should expect to hear from them. You may want to take a look at a job interview guide, Superstar Interview Guide. It's available through www.instantjobinterviewtools.com. It was a great read and it was very helpful to me. I hope this helps!

    • within two weeks if you are being seriously considered. I came across a good website that has excellent free job links: employee justice report (dot) com. The site also allows users to expose and rate employers anonymously.

Job Interview Questions: If you're going to a job interview, do you extend your arm for a handshake or wait for the interviewer?

I'm 15 and the interviewer's older, it's for a casual job, and it's a group interview, if any of that is relevant.

Best Answers to the Trickiest Job Interview Questions

    Recommended Answer:
I would put my handout when I meet the person. It may be a casual job, but you will stand out in the group if you seem more mature, which is what I think the handshake would convey. I bet nobody else will do it unless the interviewer puts his handout first. Good luck!

Job Interview Secrets and Best Practices That Land Job

    • Well - this is a pet subject of mine and no mistake.

I think it's a demonstration of your confidence that you extend your hand to be shaken when you meet, so don't wait for the interviewer if you feel like it's the right moment. (Don't sail in with your hand out right?! *lol*)

Have you practiced shaking hands? Seriously? As in not too much pressure, looking someone in the eye, not having your hand there dangling like a wet fish, not "holding on too long" either? I hope you have - your question tells me you may have at least thought about it.
Practice shaking hands with members of your family - shaking hands with ladies is a more delicate art - and you'll improve. No kidding!

My image, "Shaking hands, grabbing the guys bicep and loving him to death" shows you the ultimate in "let's be buds in this business" handshake - over-used by politicians and salesman. You may NOT use it at a job interview - unless it's as an extra suck-up as you're leaving, but it's great to use it other places and see what kind of reaction you get. It's amusing!

Good luck with the job. Why wouldn't you get it? I see no reason.

    • I would go for the shake. You don't know what he is going to do... but you don't want him to wait and see if you would. Just go for it and Handshake.

    • I always extend my hand to someone - no matter who they are or where I met them...........or in a group setting.

It's only polite, and it shows that you have confidence

Shake hands and maintain eye contact - and smile :-)

    • They will usually stick their arm out first to shake your hand when they introduce you. That's when you take advantage and shake his/her hand.

    • man to man, yes
      woman to woman, yes
But a man does not extent his hand to a woman. He waits for her to extend her.

    • If you are going to put your hand out do it with confidence, don't be looking at the ground. Smile and look casual.

    • You put your hand out first, and do a nice firm hand shake.

    • it wont mather just dont be ugly oor look so
      maybe take a bath.
      brush teeth.

    • hand out first. strong and firm handshake with eye contact

Job Interview Questions: Is it appropriate to wear a "greige"/taupe nail polish to a job interview?

My job interview outfit consists of a "greige"/mushroom/taupe skirt, so I was thinking greige would complement my outfit, but I'm unsure of whether or not such a color would be appropriate/conservative enough for a job interview setting.

Thank you in advance for any input!

        Recommended Answer:
Oh, that sounds like a lovely color.
It depends on your job and your employer,
It should be fine, considering it seems to be a more formal color.
But if you're still unsure, then considering just using a clear topcoat (they make your nails look extra-healthy and shiny!) or not to wear nail polish at all.
I don't believe that people might not hire you just because of your nail polish,
but I suppose there might be some out there.
        Good luck on your interview!

        Job Interview Skills

        • No, it wouldn't. The palest pink or clear is preferred. I know the color you're referring to because it is trendy right now, but you really don't want to wear it to a job interview. It could be distracting to whomever interviews you. I have some polish that color and one of my sons saw it and thought it was so ugly. He said it looked like I'd been digging in clay. You don't want the interviewer sitting there thinking about your manicure--you want to dazzle him with your intelligence.

        • I'm thinking if it goes with the outfit, that offsets the possibility that someone might object to the color itself.

I'm also thinking that a decent manicure is a selling point, whereas a not-so-good one might cost you points.

        • Sounds appropriate to me, subdued.
