Job Interview Questions: What should I wear to this type of job interview?

I have a few interviews coming up for some mundane, dull jobs (the only jobs i can find :(

Basically, they are jobs like sorting, or stocking shelves , or pushing papers. Not working directly with customers. Low-skill, low pay crap-jobs.

I am used to wearing a suit - jacket and tie for my previous interviews, but now that i am joining the ranks of barely-minimum wage slaves, i dont know what to wear.

SHould i just give up and not work at all?

Job Interview Skills: How to Manage a Bad Interview!

Recommended Answer:
Had this same problem recently. I used to work business to business sales and now I am working retail. I felt stupid walking into Target wearing a suit. So, I went with a long sleeve button down shirt and nice black pants. I got the job and I didn't feel stupid in what I was wearing. Dockers and a long sleeve button down would work fine for a guy. you might be able to get away with a newer, pressed polo shirt, too.

Important Job Interview Tips to Land That Job!

  • Nope--keep dressing up and looking professional, and answering interview questions to the best of your ability, showing up early or on time, etc. This kind of behavior shows your seriousness about wanting a job and will eventually get you what you want--a job.

  • shirt, tie, and pants. No jeans.

Job Interview Questions: Is it important to wear makeup on a job interview?

I generally do not wear it out of religious convictions.

The Inevitable Job Interview Question: "Why Did You Leave (Are Planning To Leave) Your Last Position

Recommended Answer:
I dont think so. I wear makeup everyday..even if I don't leave the house. So if I showed up to work one day without makeup, it would be weird.

If you wear makeup to a job interview, get hired, and then come to work looking like a totally different person..that would be strange.

I don't think it is important. You are prob very pretty naturally!

The Ten Secrets For a Great Job Interview

  • If you don't, then you don't.

Although -- it depends on the position you're applying for. You cannot be a make-up consultant and not wear make-up.

Sales generally employs good looking, attractive, fashionable people, because you deal with the public and people like to converse with and buy from attractive people (or so the industry says...) So wearing make-up may be something that could improve your chances of getting hired if it makes you appear more attractive.

  • No. Just make sure you dress for the job. If the job isn't going to involve makeup or beauty products or where looks are important(makeup artist, working at a makeup store/counter, etc) then it isn't that important.

And since you don't wear it because of your religion, you certainly don't have to wear it.

But if you do decide to wear it, keep it light and nautural.

  • it is definately not important. if someone hires you for your looks then is it a really a job u want? and u mentioned being religious so i wouldnt wear make up just for an interview. also, if you were to get the job, would you want to wear the makeup every day?

  • nobody wants to hire an ugly cow.
at your work place, you want to be presentable and not make ur business look bad.
    also dress business like.
they like to see how you care, if you dont care about how you look, theyll think youll feel the same way about your job.

  • Yes, very. But try to make it a Natural Makeup Look. Makeup makes you look younger, fresher and just much prettier. The more attractive you look, the better for you.

  • No they don't care whether you wear makeup or not. They don't like it when you wear too much though, so if you decide to wear it, keep it light.

    Good luck.

  • no unless your lookin completly washed out
if its a bar tender job then yes its important to look good
    otherwise dont worry

  • you should wear make-up but less eye shadow and more mascara because other wise they will think ur lazy or sleepy i know i hope this works for u

  • if your religion says you cant wear makeup than get a new one you idiot!!!!!!! why should a religion opress women...thats ****** up

  • did the bible tell you that makeup is the devil?

Job Interview Questions: Questions to expect on a job interview?

What kind of questions are usually asked on a job interview? I just dont want to be caught off guard and freeze up and look stupid, lol. Thanks alot :-)

Know Your Job Interview Skills

Recommended Answer:
This is my favorite, (to ask).

Your boss gives you an assignment. You must prepare a report for him for an upcoming meeting.
You get all the figures you need and prepare the report. You are reviewing it before you print it and you discover that the person who have you the wrong figures gave you the wrong ones. The report is useless. What do you do?

The answer I want to hear is .. Since your boss told you he needed it for a meeting, you gave it priority.
As a result, you are way ahead of the deadline.
All you have to do is get the right figures and correct what you have. You have it in Excel, so re-doing it isn't a big problem.
You get the right figures, re-do the report and hand it to your boss with plenty of time to spare.
You just followed the # 1 rule of boss-subordinate relationship---never do anything which would embarass your boss.

Job Interview Questions: What do you say in a job interview?

I have a job interview next week for a hostess position and front desk. what is the best way to say why i want the job position?

Use Good Scents for Your Job Interview

    Recommended Answer:
    Fan,

Be the person they'll want for a hostess job...

    1- Friendly
2- Outgoing (in an open way, not over the top & aggressive!)
3- Look them in the eye (just as you would people you're greeting as a hostess....) & remember all the good posture things your mother told you (good stance shows confidence)
4- Tell them how much you like dealing with people - which is why the hostess job appealed to you!
5- Dress appropriately for the locale when you go for the interview (Hooters would look for a different type than an upscale or family restaurant or biz office...) - erring on the side of conservative is probably a good idea
6- For the icing on the cake, you turn it around after they've asked you what they wanted to & ask them what they (or their customers) like about the place you're interviewing at and what makes them feel that way (it will show you have an interest in them & in carrying on what makes them a success in the way you'd conduct yourself).

    Lots of luck!

Are You Making These Common Job Interview Mistakes?

    • Ask yourself these questions:

      - Why DO you want the job there?
      - Why did you apply for this job over other jobs?
      - For this particular position, show them you have charisma and that you're not going to be a grouch sitting behind the desk.
      - Be polite, don't look smug or depressed or talk as such.

If you're a teenager, the best advice would be to act as though you really want the job and it's something you're going to work hard at. Although most employers won't admit it, they look at a lot of teenagers the same way, potentially, partying, unable to keep a job, constantly tardy, no-show, quit on the spot kind of people. In my experience, many teenagers are this way. Show them you're not the 'stereotypical teenager' and they'll likely pick you over other young people that want the job.

If you have a solid GPA, don't hesitate to include so on your resume.

    • Learn how to answer job interview questions. Learn how to negotiate pay. Have the willingness to learn new skills. It's not about the best way to say "I want the job position" but more about saying "I'm a good candidate for this position so don't miss out on hiring me." Remember, you need them more then they need you.

Job Interview Questions: If you're going to a job interview, do you extend your arm for a handshake or wait for the interviewer?

I'm 15 and the interviewer's older, it's for a casual job, and it's a group interview, if any of that is relevant.

Best Answers to the Trickiest Job Interview Questions

    Recommended Answer:
I would put my handout when I meet the person. It may be a casual job, but you will stand out in the group if you seem more mature, which is what I think the handshake would convey. I bet nobody else will do it unless the interviewer puts his handout first. Good luck!

Job Interview Secrets and Best Practices That Land Job

    • Well - this is a pet subject of mine and no mistake.

I think it's a demonstration of your confidence that you extend your hand to be shaken when you meet, so don't wait for the interviewer if you feel like it's the right moment. (Don't sail in with your hand out right?! *lol*)

Have you practiced shaking hands? Seriously? As in not too much pressure, looking someone in the eye, not having your hand there dangling like a wet fish, not "holding on too long" either? I hope you have - your question tells me you may have at least thought about it.
Practice shaking hands with members of your family - shaking hands with ladies is a more delicate art - and you'll improve. No kidding!

My image, "Shaking hands, grabbing the guys bicep and loving him to death" shows you the ultimate in "let's be buds in this business" handshake - over-used by politicians and salesman. You may NOT use it at a job interview - unless it's as an extra suck-up as you're leaving, but it's great to use it other places and see what kind of reaction you get. It's amusing!

Good luck with the job. Why wouldn't you get it? I see no reason.

    • I would go for the shake. You don't know what he is going to do... but you don't want him to wait and see if you would. Just go for it and Handshake.

    • I always extend my hand to someone - no matter who they are or where I met them...........or in a group setting.

It's only polite, and it shows that you have confidence

Shake hands and maintain eye contact - and smile :-)

    • They will usually stick their arm out first to shake your hand when they introduce you. That's when you take advantage and shake his/her hand.

    • man to man, yes
      woman to woman, yes
But a man does not extent his hand to a woman. He waits for her to extend her.

    • If you are going to put your hand out do it with confidence, don't be looking at the ground. Smile and look casual.

    • You put your hand out first, and do a nice firm hand shake.

    • it wont mather just dont be ugly oor look so
      maybe take a bath.
      brush teeth.

    • hand out first. strong and firm handshake with eye contact

Job Interview Questions: Should I go to job fair with over 50 companies or a job interview that is guarnteed to hire me>?

The job that would hire me is NCO in Rockford. TMOBILE Customer service 40 hours a week, 9 an hour. I'd be driving 500 miles a week. They are only interview till today so I said yes to the interview. NCO is known for bad work environment from previous employees with the turn over rate and how they are treated. Should I go to the interview, or go to the job fair and pass up a temporary job?

    Appearance Matters in Job Interviewing

    Recommended Answer:
Definitely expand your horizon. If you already have the inside scoop of a company's ethics, then why waste time and energy if you feel you will wind up just like the other employees?
50 companies are a better bet. Find out which companies are going to be there and do some research on which ones you want to spring into action with.

        Master Job Interview Skills

        Recommended Answer:
In today's employment environment there are 3 critical steps that must be taken 100% of the time to successful land any job. Unfortunately, more often than not these simple steps are not taken.

        1) It doesn't matter weather the position is for a janitor or an engineer you must take the time to figure out what is important to the employer.

        2) You must be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to questions and general conversation.

        3) You will be amazed because once you have done your homework your stress levels will drop and your confidence will rise. This will put you in the front runners position no matter what the experience level of the other applicants.

You should always dress according to the employers style. If it's a casual position/employer then dress casual, if it's a strictly professional position/employer then your attire should be professional. More importantly you should always no matter casual or professional error on the conservative side....never over do it or wear extremely bright colors.

Employers hire those that respond to questions effectively and appear confident over experience the majority of the time.

This can almost guarantee your success with any job....

Job Interviews Should Be As Easy As Trying on a Pair of Shoes

        • Are you reliable? Describe an occasion where you were under pressure. How do you think that incident helped you? Are you comfortable taking direction from others. How well do you feel you work under pressure?

Good luck with your interview. :)

        • My advice is go to the appropriate section. In your case, go to Careers and Employment, and ask there

This really isn't the appropriate section technically, and also you won't get any serious answers here

          Good luck

        • Either can you play the xylophone, or if we run out of chicken, would you mind letting us cut you up, bread you, fry you, and sell you?

Job Interview Skills: Increase Your Skills In This Vital Area!

          • Disorganization
"Without a good system, you have no way to know if you're doing the right things, no way to find and stop the things you're doing wrong," says career blogger and coach Steven Savage. "People should track their vital numbers--resumes sent out, contacts made, interviews gotten--so they can improve those numbers."

            Perfectionism
"Some people spend too much time thinking about what to say in their cover letter or researching the company, and miss the window for applying," says executive coach Kathi Elster.

Trying to match all of a job ad's requirements
"When employers draft ads for jobs, they have the ideal candidate in mind. The ideal candidate rarely exists," says career counselor Kathleen Brady. "Unless something is listed as 'required,' if you're lacking two or three qualifications, just apply anyway."

            Not quantifying accomplishments
"Using numbers to show things like how much revenue you brought in, the costs you avoided, or the percent increase in efficiency you were responsible for, tell a hiring manager a lot more about your capabilities than words can," says J.T. Kirk, the author of "Confessions of a Hiring Manager."

Use a resume builder for help quantifying your achievements. Professionally written resume samples and examples will help you show the results of your work.

            Procrastination
"Inactivity and procrastination breed hopelessness. It's essential to stay active in your job search, even when you don't feel like it," says career counselor Joanne Meehl. She says too many job-seekers say they're looking, when all they're doing is watching TV or mowing the lawn while merely thinking about finding a job.

            Being too self-centered
"A cover letter needs to show exactly how your values and experience mesh with what the company needs," says Art Fox, who teaches business writing at DePaul University. "Writing about your accomplishments is not enough."

            Sloppiness
"I can't believe how careless people can be," says Michael Hayes, of Momentum Specialized Staffing, who recently got a cover letter stating, "Hello, I just moved from Illinois to the Phoenix area and would lovbe to get started working...." Lorne Epstein, creator of the Facebook application InSide Job, joins his disbelief, having just fielded a note stating, "I hope that this does not reach you you redundantly."

            Using a questionable email address
"The name mrluvuallnite@____ or sexylittlemommy@____ may get you a few nods on a dating site, but not with a potential employer," says tech writer and resume consultant Jae Henderson.and finally the most important thing is when they ask you "so tell me about yourself." tell them your experiments of jobs, volunteer, or whatsoever not your lifetime.

Job Interview Questions: Is it acceptable for a woman to wear a pantsuit to a job interview?

I am reading a job interview book and it says skirt suits are the only "proper" attire for women. What year is this again?

          Don't Blow Your Job Interview

          Recommended Answer:
That must be a really old book. Check the first publication date.

I have worn pant suits to all of my job interviews. I think it looks more professional than a skirt suit and I feel much more confident than I would in a skirt suit.

Oil Rigs Employment - Some Facts About the Oil Rig Job Interview

          • Today, pants are acceptable in most workplaces. However, many interviewers may still hold old fashioned views about proper dress, even if they never express them and would never consciously believe they affected their selection. Unfortunately there's just no way to tell. For an interview, you want to make a good first impression, so why risk it? I'd wear a nice, conservative skirt suit to get any possible extra edge there might be. A formal skirt suit can never, under any circumstances, be considered inappropriate. When you get the job, you can wear pants every day of the work week if you want to. And the year is 2009, but that doesn't change human nature.

          • People generally advise you to dress up at least two levels higher than the current job for which you are appearing. It will create a good first impression. For professional and senior management positions, a suit, with a tie and dress shoes is quite suitable. For women, a formal pant suit will be very apt. Women should wear only minimal and simple jewelry. Women candidates should opt for only moderate heeled shoes.

          • I don't know, but i'd throw it away and get something that is relevant.
Even for a very professional interview (lawyer, executive, etc), pants would be acceptable.

          • Pants are acceptable. You are right.
Caveat: If someone were applying to a job where she knew the company held old-fashioned values, I think wearing a skirt would help.
