Job Interview Questions: Job interview? What to Wear?

I am having a job interview on Tuesday and I am figuring out to wear. This is for a UPS packaging and handling position and it just sounds like a very formal and strict environment.

I have always gotten away with dress shoes, nice dress pants or khakis, and a nice express polo. But these are the times when I applied for retail and a restaurant and got the job.

Should it be okay just wearing that, or would I have to wear a business like shirt, pants, shoes, tie, etc because it seems like a formal environment?

Job Interview Questions: First job interview ever at Wal-Mart?

I'm 16, and am going to have a job interview at Wal-Mart this Tuesday. This is going to be my first real job interview and therefore i'm very anxious that I might screw it up. Any advice on what questions i'm going to be asked, or how to dress? Thanks.

What Do You Do at a Job Interview?

Recommended Answer:
Good for you for wanting to prepare. The best thing to do is to make sure you aren't caught off guard, so by asking here, it shows that you are already thinking. First of all, do a bit of research about Walmart - Go to their website and do a bit of research - have you seen a job description of the job you are applying to?

This is a quote from Walmart's website "At Walmart Canada, we recognize the value of teamwork, strong leadership and open communication. We strive to create a work environment in which associates are involved and enjoy what they do. " They are looking for people who fit with their missions and goals.

Remember, people like people who SMILE - be friendly, approachable and smile - stand up and shake the interviewer's hand.

Dress - one step up from how you may dress at work - Dress pants, clean button up shirt (blouse for girls), your better shoes (not your grubby runners).

Questions will relate to the skills they are looking for in the job - each question, try to decide what skill they are trying to find out.

"Tell me about yourself" - to answer this, try to decide the most important things you would want them to know about you - you are 16 years old, member of .... team, so you know about teamwork and how important every member to the team is. A real people person.... like being around people.... (can you give example of where you used some of these skills?)

They may ask you about strengths (choose something that is really useful in the job you are applying for), weaknesses (tell them about something that will not detract from them, but at the same time tell them what you have learned and how you are working on improving the strength.)

Depending on the job, they may ask questions about the types of skills you have and how you learn.

They may ask you to tell them about a time when.... you were a member of a team .... had too many things to do.... had a conflict with someone..... what would you do if you had to deal with an unhappy customer....

What keys are they looking for: Teamwork, cooperation, every member is important...

Too many things to do? Organizational skills, prioritizing, asking for help so you don't get behind, letting the supervisor know, making yourself available when others are too busy

Conflict? How do you deal with stress, can you negotiate, cooperate, handle pressure?

Unhappy customer? Policies, try to help, do everything you can to make sure the customer is happy, find a supervisor or someone who has authority....

Each of these questions is trying to find different skills - to answer these, prepare yourself by thinking about stories - describe a situation, what was your role, what you did, and how the situation turned out (try to keep everything positive - use only positive language)

Is there somewhere at school where you can go for a mock interview or interview preparation?

Good luck with your interview!!!

Job Interview Success - How to Go After Your Dream Job

Have you watched the Apprentice? 1. Play to people's strengths. E.g. If a task needs organisational skills & technical skills, give the former to the person who is a good organiser & the latter to someone with the technical skills. 2. Treat people differently - some people respond best to being treated in a certain manner.

Job Interview Preparation - Three Key Steps

    • What interviewers are normally looking for when they ask questions like this is whether or not you are a hands on manager or a more laid-back, flexible manager. I've been asked questions about the different styles of managers that I've had and how I have dealt with them. Managerial styles I have worked for/with are the following:
-1) One was very specific in the product they received and the process by which is got there. What I mean by this is that they gave a task, and gave specific instructions on what they wanted of the task, and how that task should be done. This is usually referred to as micro-managing. Basically, this type of manager is someone who does not delegate well, and leaves their employees with very little flexibility. While this leads to a very consistent and usually high quality product (i.e. the task is usually done correctly), it tends to be very inefficient (manager spends too much time standing over the employees) and often creates a more unhappy work environment.

      2) The other form of management is a more laid back manager, who gives a little bit more trusts to their employees in how they get a task done. While they still expect a higher quality product/result, they give their employees a little more flexibility in how they get it done. This should lead to better productivity from your employees (happier = higher productivity),however the "product" of the task may vary. However, this is usually a better method for managers as they tend to be much less stressed out. They are also spending less time micro-managing and thus can get much more done themselves. This style of management generally comes from experience.

      Hope this helps!

Depends how 'with it" the interviewing team is.

They should ask about your Christian beliefs.

They should do a criminal record check.

They should ask for info on what you know about the characteristics of 13-20 year olds.

They should make sure you get along with other staff.

They should ask for a reference from a former boss.

Veegit has a valid point. I wouldn't be a mirror image of the person, but how they sit and whatnot generally sets the "mood" for the interview. Other than that: be sure to dress nice. It's almost always better to over dress than under dress. For advice, talk to your folks.

As far as what to say: Obviously if you've never had a job, you don't have tons of experience. What you want to be ready to do is focus on what makes you a good worker. For instance, do you work really hard with household chores or in school? If so, think of a good example about how hard you've worked. Effort is something your boss wants to see. No one likes a lazy person. Also, are you a fast learner? If so, think of something you had to do that you didn't know much about. Talk about how you caught on quickly to what you were asked to do. Finally, have you ever had to make a tough decision without any help? This could be anything from deciding what courses to take in school (to prepare for a career) or a life decision. Again, bouce these ideas off of your friends and your folks. They know you really well, so they might be able to tell you things about yourself that you forgot.

Ultimately, you just have to show them that you're willing to work hard and learn whatever you have to. Be confident, too. If you're not, fake it. Chances are they can't tell, and people respond to confidence. Good luck!

      Hi,

Congratulation for winning a job interview. This shows that your resume and application did its job. Now the interviewer wants to know more about you and see if you are the best fit for the job. Almost all people get nervous when they have to face an interview. So, it's a natural thing. Don't worry too much about it. Take it naturally. Try some relaxation techniques to help with your nervousness. You can listen to music to divert yourself away from unnecessary worrying, watch funny movies and laugh out loud, or use breathing exercises. Take long deep natural breathe to calm yourself and keep your emotions/nervousness under control. This will help you lifelong in long run with your nervousness and for your emotional stability.

Be on time for the interview. A litter earlier is better. Don't be late at interview. As you've said talking politely and dressing up neat and clean are necessary to create a first impression. You can take a copy of your CV and application (if possible). Have a firm handshake when introduced to interviewer. Try to maintain eye contact during the interview. Be honest and tactful in answering interview questions, keeping role in mind for the job you've applied for.

      Good luck with your interview!!

What To Wear On A Job Interview

      • I would wear a nice top and a nice pair of dress pants. Wear some dressy flats or shorter heels.

      • Pencil skirt with a nice blouse and some classic heels!

      • Definately show that your professional, neat & tidy. So something modest to cover any tattoos you might have. Maybe a white collared shirt and a pencil skirt. If its cold, throw a knit sweater over your shirt and even a trech coat. If you choose to wear heels, make sure closed in heels because most offices prefer closed in shoes. And be sure to pull you hair back into a neat bun or pony tail. This just shows more professionalism, and SMILEEEEEEE ! :) lol
        Good luck (Y)

      • ohmigosh. Fleur read my mind. so a nice pencil skirt with a blouse. nothing too crazy with youre make up and hair. if your top and bottom are like more bland colors like gray black or brown wear a brightly colored bag or shoes! good luck with the interveiw. just be yourself!

Job Interviews - Ten Etiquette Tips To Help You Ace The Interview

        • Many peeps get stuck when they are trying to decide what to wear at an interview. Personally I'm from the old school, I am of the opinion that formal wear is never inappropriate; you can get some tips and tricks from the resource in the box below, they also have loads of advice on job hunting.

        • lettuce think about this, maybe a flour,a pear of shoes, a kool ade smile, bow tie pasta and maybe if it's warm a lite dressing to match the seasons

        • Just wear a nice blouse with nice jeans its just an interview for a store if it was an interview for a us government agency then you would look nice.

        • Yes wear the coat and take it off. Black pants are fine, a button down shirt and laced shoes

        • Always dress for success..... shirt, tie, slacks, belt, "church" shoes...

        • Wow! I wish you were applying for a job with me! I am excited when a job applicant is concerned enough to wear what is appropriate for an entry level interview. Because of the concern you are showing, I'll bet you do great and get the job! (If not this one, you will do well soon)
You should match the style of attire of the position you are applying for. You want the interviewer to be able to see you as an employee. If you are over dressed, (s)he may unfairly assume you think you are too good for the type of job that is available. If you are under dressed, you will blend in with the other 10 people that asked for applications today...
Be wrinkle free, wear deodorant, and brush your hair and teeth. Take the jacket off when you enter a temperature controlled area, then just carry it with you. Always wear an undershirt!
Shoes, if the employees are wearing tennis style shoes, you can too, but I would chose black, with no emblems or designs on them.
I was in the grocery business for 25 years, from age 16, I did very well! You can too! Turnover is high in the grocery business, showing up is 1/2 the battle...
          Good luck with the interview!

Job Interview Questions: Job interview with another candidate at the same meeting - how do I handle this?

I have a job interview next week with another candidate, my competition, also at the same meeting. I'm looking for any tips or suggestions of how to handle this situation.

It's a lunch interview, which itself isn't that unusual, but I have never, ever heard of having 2 candidates interview together for the same position.

I'm guessing it's more of a test of each of our personalities and how we deal with stressful situations than it is anything else.

Because this is such a unique type of interview, any advice about it would be greatly appreciated.

        • Are you sure there aren't two positions available?
I'm a HR Consultant working with clients in size from 5 employees to 25000 employees.
I have never heard of having two candidates attend the same session, if there is only one position available. I don't know what the reasoning would be, your guess is as good as any.

This is my advice: remember, recruitment is a two-way analysis. You get to interview the company as much as they get to interview them. If it appears a fiasco, it probably is a fiasco. Unless you have to take he job because you don't have other options and need something = more on.
