Job Interview Questions: How do YOU dress for a job interview?

I don't have like a business suit or anything so I'm wearing a black button up shirt, gray slacks, and black flats. Also, how do you do your make up? I'm going to do just some basic eye liner, and nude color eye shadow. Nothing too bold.

Job Interview Tips for Second Interviews

Recommended Answer:
I've always worn a suit to the first interview, and a pencil skirt with a button down shirt to the second (if there was a second). Good luck girl!!

Be Prepared For Job Interview Success

  • The general rule of thumb is to wear one "step up" in dress from what a person in the position would typically wear or what the dress code is. Another good tip is to dress to match the boss / interviewer.

I always wore a suit for interviews. I also generally wear heels because I'm comfortable in them. I would absolutely recommend wearing flats if that is where your comfort level lies (or if the job is something that's going to have you running around - caring for children, etc.)

If you don't have an actual suit, do you have a blazer or suit jacket that you could pair with some slacks or a (knee-length) skirt?

The sound of your outfit is nice, but I would add some color somewhere. You want them to see you right away and remember you. It may not be fair, but your outfit is the first thing they're going to judge and a smartly worn eye-catching piece will work wonders. Either a bright scarf or bold jewelry maybe? (I wouldn't recommend a 'loud' purse or bag as you don't want to be carrying anything big with you.)

  • Black and grey is always good. I also be sure I fix my hair (it's naturally curly so I straighten it). To me it just looks more professional and I hate my hair curly. If I do curl it, I don't air dry it, I actually pull out the curling iron and fix it properly. For makeup I do a very neutral look: nude eye shadow or a champagne color (adds light to the eyes), a light amount of eye liner, and mascara. Small amount of blush, and nude lips (say chapstick or a neutral lip color). Fixing your hair and being sure your nails are neat and trim will show the interviewer that you care for your personal hygiene, which reflects positively to your work ethic.

I think what you described will be just fine. If it's a company that would more likely being in suits, I would try to find a blazer or at least a nice looking scarf to dress it up a bit.

  • I dress as close to the way I would be dressing for the job I'm applying for. When I was applying for a grocery store, I wore black slacks, black socks and tennis shoes, and a white button-up shirt. When I applied for an office job, I wore black slacks, a nice shirt, nylons and low heals.

I don't usually wear makeup, and as a result, I'm not very confident when it comes to applying the right colors and applying it properly. If I felt the need to put on make up, I'd put on as little as possible and follow the "less is more" rule...I'd want it to look like I wasn't wearing ANY makeup. Especially if it's an office job; I wouldn't go for the bold look.

  • It honestly depends on what job. What you said your wearing sounds great just don't overdress. Just say this.. if your interviewing at say walmart or other basic store you don't want to go wearing a nice suit, hair and makeup all done up nice and jewelry from Tiffany's if you get what i mean. A nice pair of dress pants with a casual not too dressy shirt looks great. It looks like your hiding something and they don't like that. Managers like to find people who will be open, and be themselves. However if it's a higher job like management or other position you should dress nice because it shows your professionalism. Most managers however should see past your clothing and into your personality. As long as you seem like a potentially good employee thats all that matters Dressing nice just shows your comitment and of course your preofessionalism. Thats why it's bad to show up in jeans and things like that - to me it looks like it was just another errand in your day.
Do your hair and make-up the same way you always do it. You don't want to have a completely different appearance at the interview then you do when you get the job. If you wear very bold makeup then tone it down for the workplace in general.

When I go for interviews I usually follow these standards. I got an interview at shopko for a cashier and I wore khaki pants with dress shoes, and a sweater or casual shirt I cant remember. When I interviewed at one of the hospitals for a medical records position I dressed up a little bit more. I work nice black dress pants, black heels a button up shirt with a jacket. Not too dressy but dressy enough. I got both jobs so I think the standards are pretty well met.

    Good luck :)

  • I wear slacks, button down shirt and a cardigan. I apply a small amount of makeup. I don't want to over do it. I have been in interviews where others are waiting in jeans and graphic t-shirts. I have done interviews where girls dress like they are going to a club, while I am not a man that doesn't impress me. The only thing that impresses me is how well you sell yourself, if you look like you have a good work ethic, good attitude, and dress presentable.

  • It's been a few years since I've been to one, but I work slacks and a nice shirt. I too wore flats, as I don't like heels and they seemed a bit too fancy for the job I was interviewing for. ;-) I'm not a huge make up wearer. Usually just a bit of basic black eye liner, a light eyeshadow and the occasional small bit of mascara. Other then that, that's usually it.

  • It's been a while since I had an interview but in general, I would wear khakis and a nice shirt with dress shoes. My last job was at a daycare and I knew I'd be wearing jeans and a tee shirt everyday but still dressed for an interview. My boss even said I could have wore jeans to the interview but I can't do that lol.

  • What you have sounds fine. I have a black interview/funeral suit, and a few different color shirts as part of my professional wardrobe. I wear white or blue to a first interview, and if it went well, I go with something bolder for a follow-up, like a bright pink or a lime green.

  • Black slacks, a cute dressy top (but nothing too bright / busy) and black flats. Id do my make up just like I do any other day.. foundation, powder, eye shadow to match the outfit but not 'clubbish' or 'night out-ish', eye liner, mascara and lip gloss. :-)

  • I have two suits, but I also have a lot of other professional looking clothes. I have a certain power outfit that I always go to for lots of confidence. I do my makeup with nude shades and mascara. I don't want to look like a harlot haha.

  • My 1st three interviews were extremely informal- a summer camp and 2 fast food joints.

I didn't have an interview for my current job- my stepmom just hired me. That sounds like a good outfit though. The only thing I'd do different for make up is mascara

  • That sounds good. I wear slacks and a nice shirt. Usually I try to keep the color toned down, I would hate to draw attention away from my awesome beauty and stunning personality.

Be careful with that eye liner.

  • Black dress pants a nice dressy shirt or one that looks professional. For my last job I wore black dress pants, a long sleeved pink shirt with sequins on the neck line, and black high heels and a little mascara. Beyond easy.

  • Sounds good but, you may want to add bit of color like a blue, red, or whatever color looks good on you for the shirt? Like a plain button down shirt not a print. Good Luck!!!

  • Black skirt (knee length), nylons, white dressy t-shirt, grey cardigan, necklace and earrings. Black flats. I wear minimal make-up.

  • It depends on the job you're interviewing for.

  • i almost always wore jeans and a clean shirt, always got the job too :)

  • depends ur job type and moreover light makeup is always better with normal jeans and t-shirt..

Job Interview Questions: What should I wear to a job interview?

I'm 16 and have a job interview for a teenage clothes shop. I'm a girl, what do you think I should wear? Could you get some pictures of clothes suggestions I could wear because I don't know D:

Tips to a Job Interview Presentation to Impress Your Hiring Manager

Recommended Answer:
What to wear for an interview depends a lot on *where* exactly you're interviewing to work. For your situation, a pair of neat dress pants or a skirt with a dress shirt or a nice sweater, or a neat, not-too-short dress should be fine. Consider how the people who already work there dress for work, and aim for something similar but a little more polished. For a place like Gap, you'd want to go with something kind of classic and a bit preppy, while for somewhere like Forever 21 would be more trendy, and Urban Outfitters is more hipster and quirky. Jeans (or anything denim, really), t-shirts, tank tops, sweats, hoodies, sneakers, etc. are (almost) always a big no-no for job interviews. Things with rips or stains are always a no-no.

(The outfit Melissa recommended for you, while cute for a school day or hanging out with your friends, is much too casual for a job interview.)

Spontaneous Job Interviews - Why You Should Love Them

  • Wear something from there store or something that is of that style...but keep it appropriate. Khakis or black slacks with a cute top would work as well as a tasteful dress and cardi or something like that. No butt or major cleavage showing!

  • wear a white polo or something dats looks formal yet not looks like ur attending an office meeting. wear a close shoes with a lil hills ..

Job Interview Questions: What should i say when im at my job interview?

so i have a job interview at hollister. what should i say when they ask why i wanna work for their store

A Job Interview Without Cold Sweats

Recommended Answer:
Well why do you want to work there? Make a list before the interview of why you want to work there.

Then cross off everything that makes you sound desperate. Good responses included "because I am good at customer service", "I think you have a quality product", etc. But whatever you answer may be followed up by a question like - which product do you like, or tell me about your customer service experience. So make sure your answer is a real answer.

Job Interview Questions: What kind of questions can I expect in a job interview?

I just got called in to be interviewed at which wich and i would really like to be ready for it. It's my first interview so i need help! Thanks everyone!

Things to Do in a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Take a look on the internet to prepare for your interview, not only to look at the company website so you can familiarise youself with what they do, but also to review interview questions etc.

All interviews are different, but they are forum to allow both of the parties to decide whether or not this is the right move. Not only must they buy into you, but they must sell themselves to you.. and not only must you buy into what they do/offer but you must sell yourself to them. The list would be endless, but I have included some key questions below.

Standard questions include the following:
What do you know about us?
Why do you want to come and work for us?
What skills and experience do you have that would aid you in this position?
What are you strengths?
What are you weaknesses?
Have you ever had a conflict with someone (socially or in a work environment) and how have you dealt with it?

Remember to dress smart, give a firm handshake when you meet them, look at them when speaking, keep your hands away from your face, mouth etc, smile and think about the queston before you answer it. Many an interview has gone awry because the person did not fully understand the question being asked (so ask them to reiterate it) or they bumble along answering a question they wanted them to ask.

Good luck.

Top 10 Job Interview Disasters

  • It depends on if you are meeting with a human resource person. They tend to have textbook type questions (what are your strengths/weaknesses, where do you see yourself in five years). If you're being interviewed by someone who isn't trained most of the questions will probably center around the job.

Two questions that stumped me in interviews-if you were an animal what animal would you be? and state three adjectives that describe yourself.

  • Here are some that i found on a website. I've had many job interviews and have been asked many of these questions. Good luck with your interview! And sorry about how many there are!!!!How would you describe yourself?

  • Hi Rayne, I am a professional Interview Coach.

You've had some pretty detailed answers already. If I were you I would prepare questions of your own. Ask them during and at the end of the interview. Make sure you breathe deeply prior to meeting your interviewer to settle your nerves. Give a good handshake and always maintain eye contact, (without staring). Always wear a suit and make sure you look and feel good. Be confident in your own ability, you are only talking about you. Who knows you better than you?

Highlight your past successes to your interviewer, tell him/her when you have done well, been promoted, or had success in a previous position.

Research the company thoroughly prior to the interview. The more information you know about the company, the better. Your interviewer will be highly impressed if you have done your home work!

You must be enthusiastic, motivated, confident and have self belief. If you believe in yourself then your interviewer will believe in you. If you don't, then neither will he/she.

Try and have positive thoughts during the build up to the interview. Remember positive thoughts = positive feelings = positive outcomes. Don't allow any negativity to enter your head. Tell yourself you are the best possible person for that job and believe it when you say it.

If you follow those simple tips, you will deliver a brilliant confident interview. Feel free to look at my website for more information www.theinterviewcoaches.co.uk for more help and advice.

I'll be doing a weekly blog very soon offering hints, tips and advice so keep an eye out.

Best of luck for your interview, I am sure you will do great!

  • The kind of questions that you expect in a job interview is all about your resume, cover letter, your experienced . For more details about questions and tips in job interview just feel free to visit our site at www.my-thank-you-site.com/job-int…

  • 3 questions come with every interview:
    1. What is your best quality?
    2. What is your worst quality?
    3. Why should I hire you?
An interview is the time to beef yourself up. Don't lie, or boast you can do something you can't. Simply focus on your positive attributes. For the 2nd question, I always answer something that I can improve on. Such as, "I suffer with punctuality, but in the past year I've been on time every time." Or, "I am not the best with organization, but I've been learning ways to improve and hope to do so with your company. For the last question, always have an answer. If you don't know why they should hire you, they won't. Answer this question truthfully. Such as being an honest person, amicable, hard worker, etc.
Never ever ever ever bad mouth a previous employer, teacher, or anyone else. This is extremely unprofessional and will definitely negatively impact your chances of being hired.
I always go to interviews 10 minutes early, dress conservatively, am very friendly (NOT bubbly), and MAKE EYE CONTACT. More times than not, I'm hired on the spot.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Also tell them that you are a huge fan of all types of movies so you will be able to reccommend a movie to customers who have inquiries about a movie

You should try to emphasise that you are an extremely HARD WORKER as much as possible during the interview

Also tell them that you are flexible with the hours you work, even if you aren't you can worry about that after you've had the job for a little while

Basically tell them anything you sense they want to here, usually you will know by how they phrase a certain question, what kind of answer they want

If you end up havin to serve the food, I would suggest tying your hair back and looking as neat as possible so they know that you won't get hair and germs in the food

Job Interview Questions: What do wear to my job interview?

I have a job interview at sears today part time position while im still in college last year til i graduate :). i was wondering if i should wear a suit or just dress pant dress shirt and tie to it?

The Values That You Should Have in a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
Suit, definitely. If you show you can dress professionally for the interview, they will know you can for the job. Thi is especially important for places that do a lot of direct customer interaction like Sears.

How to Display Enthusiasm at a Job Interview

  • Wear a suit. It shows seriousness.

I interviewed for a job at Wawa to clean poop off toilet seats, re-stock cold-rooms and empty garbage-ridden trashcans, and work as a cashier just before I graduated college and in my interview, I wore a suit.

If you're not going to wear a suit, consider wearing long sleeve shirt and appropriate trouser, and be all around well groomed. That should be good enough.

  • Just do the dress shirt, dress pants, and tie. No need to go all out with a suit for a part-time job.

  • ALWAYS jacket and tie. No exceptions.

  • Suit not required...

  • dress shirt and tie should be fine unless you want to make a sharp first impression in which case ware a suit

  • just be formal and put some light colour dress

I have my first interview when I was 16 and I wore dark colored skinny jeans and a nice top and I got the job and have been working there since which has been about 3 years.

You are applying for a part time job, so dressing nice shouldnt be the most important thing.

Job Interview Questions: How honest to be in a job interview?

I'm a teen and I've never gone to a job interview before, and I'm looking for a job. It's good to be ready for interviews and prepare answers to questions I may be asked, but what if my honest answers aren't appealing? Should I lie? Like if the honest answer to "What are 3 adjectives that your friends/family would use to describe you?" is clumsy, unorganized and short-tempered? Or the answer to a direct question like "How are you people skills?" is a bit awkward and not good with small talk?

What To Bring To A Job Interview - Interview Basics

    Recommended Answer:
You need to be more positive. You don't have to tell them all your weaknesses, but you also shouldn't make up a munch of skills that you don't have. Write down all your strengths, all the things that you are good at.

For example, I'm a bit shy and don't have great communication skills, BUT I am very patient with people and always polite, and THAT's what I mention in the job interview. You get what I mean?

If your family would only describe you as clumsy and short-tempered, then forget that. Focus on the positive things they would say about you. (Although I might caution about being short-tempered with people, it could cost you your job)

Good luck with your job search.
