Job Interview Questions: Is it OK to answer during job interview that you're looking forward to a fairly better compensation?

During job interview, if they ask you why you are looking for a new job, is it OK to answer that one of your reasons is that you are looking forward to a fairly better compensation? Or is it a NO-NO answer? Thanks.

Yes that is fine, however, it would be better to have other reasons as well relating to the company, or the type of work, etc.

  • A definite NO-NO. Never bring up salary or benefits until you are offered the job. If you give a number or range (even if they ask), you put yourself at a disadvantage or disqualify yourself. Jobs are hard to get; I would not risk it with that answer.

A better answer would be, "I'm seeing a new challenge where I can use my skills and abilities..." (Then go on to list what they are).

    Good luck.

  • 100% NO

With the economy the way it is, if you show up with anything less than "How can much work can I do, and how little can you pay me" style of thinking and attitude, you probably won't get it.

As a business owner I can tell you we are getting 10 times more than usual resumes. Unfortunately for employees it is extremely competitive. A lot of people are willing to work twice as long for half as much. We even have people in professional fields willing to work for FREE just for experience in a non-internship position. While we don't stoop to that level, it is a real eye opener and I felt a sense of obligation to let people who are seeking jobs know what's going on behind the company doors.

Attached is an EXCELLENT article regarding this situation that you MUST read. I think it will further clarify what is going on is this economy right now.
