Job Interview Questions: Any tips for a 17 year old going to her first job interview?

Ok, so tomorrow I have been called in for a job interview at a really nice restaurant called The Firefly. This is my first interview, so I'm not really sure what to expect. Other than dressing nice, is there any advice you could offer me?
(I applied to be a hostess)

Recommended Answer:
Congrats that you got an interview! You'll do well I know.

They like to ask STAR questions. Tell me about a situation (ST) where you had to work against a deadline, deal with a difficult customer, or something like that. What did you do (Action). And what result did you get? (Result)

So think through situations they might ask you about. Then prepare to tell them about the situation, what you did, and the result you got. For the waitress position, they need you to be cool under deadlines, able to deal with stress, able to deal with difficult customers, and able to smile at the face of rude people.

Be calm and be natural in the interview. Show them that you're more mature than other 17 year olds. Let them know why you are a stable person with a future ahead of them, a good worker, and you'll show up. That's right, the number one problem that resturants have is no shows.

Best of luck in your interview.

Job Interviews -- How to Follow Up Effectively

  • Don't wear jeans to the interview; dress like you're going to church.
No cussing. Act like one of the Brady girls, not like Paris Hilton.
The hostess job is entry level, and they like pretty high school and college girls. They are not expecting a business expert. The competition could be pretty fierce if it's a really nice restaurant, so don't blow it, there are probably 20 other girls in your school who applied for that exact same job!

For that job, if you are the only applicant who looks like a cheerleader, then you're probably getting the job.

  • Be friendly and smile, and wear nice clothes but don't overdo it. Just be casual and focus on the people and not yourself. Also, get some prayers. Most importantly in life, get to know God, your spiritual Father, then pray about your life. He can help you live a better life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a rich and full life. Also, you need to know God's Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God's blessing and forgiveness, as you live God's way. We need to know and follow God in this life so we can go to heaven after we die, and so we can get God's help now. Not following God leads to hell, eternal suffering. Instead, there is an important prayer to pray to become a born again Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:
"Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don't want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever so I can receive God's forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven after I die. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus' name. Amen."
After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church like Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran.
Also, get into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God's will for your life. The Bible is God's instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die. The church can also get you baptized and prayed for. You can pray for yourself daily too. God guide your life.

  • Just show them the qualities you expect from a hostess.

Be polite, smile, do a little research over the restaurant (date of opening, what they offer, who's the owner, etc.), let them know you want to work and you won't leave in 5 days because you found another job.

    I hope this helps :)

  • *Smile alot
*Answer questions with "yes" not "yea"
*Arrive with a Curriculum Vitale even if you have never had a job (download free template from MicroSoft Online)

*Never Ever use the adjective "neat" to describe something....

    * just have fun and be yourself...

***Most common question is "Why do you want to work here?" Prepare an answer for that
****Also "What strengths would you bring?" Good Luck!!

  • Smile, be polite, be honest and most importantly, be yourself.

  • don't vomit on the interviewer
