You're asked that to determine whether you're an introvert or an extrovert. Most employers want to hire extroverts. Those types of questions are common when applying for jobs when you are young. Job Interview Mistakes!
- to see if you will get along with your work mates.
- i probably would have lied and said that I had friends.
Don't worry man, you're not alone. i don't really have any friends either - Most interviewers are untrained and somewhat clueless about really asking good interview questions, and will inject just about anything into an interview to try to fill time, or ask about something that they personally think gives them a better insight into you.
I wouldn't put too much stock in that particular question, nor worry about your answer to it. - you were probably asked this because they want to see how well you can get along with others, and if you are easy going. honesty is always good, but perhaps you could have said that you make acquaintances easily and get along well with most everyone, but have a few close friends.
- They probably asked this to see if you can adapt to new situations with ease. Also, to see if you can relate to people quickly which is needed in any customer service type of job. Saying that you lack friends would probably raise red flags. They would want to hear a good reason as to why you don't have friends.... any answer as to why you don't have friends would be shooting yourself in the foot.
- To see how you are as far as personality goes. Like if you are a likable person and can communicate easily with others
- It may have been simpler if you played well with others if they wanted to know if you would fit in. It would have been better to ask if you made friends easily if you were interviewing for a position in which you dealt with the public. The question is really about trust and their lack of it in you. If you have friends, they think you'll either spend company time visiting with them, or maybe if you handle security, you'd let them have access they shouldn't.
