Job Interview Questions: Job interview tomorrow but planning a vacation for next month?

I have a job interview tomorrow. I plan on going on a cruise next month, its nonrefundable. When is the appropriate time to tell them about needing a week off? And no, this job isn't very important to me so I'd probably choose the cruise over the job.

Assorted Job Interview Techniques

Recommended Answer:
do not mention it at all. In all likelihood the job will start after cruise. companies move slow.

if asked when you can start just pick the monday after cruise. do not mention cruise.

Ninja Job Interview Tactics For Serious Job Seekers

  • Go to the interview. Don't mention the cruise. This will only become relevant if you get the job. They will generally ask you when you can be available to begin working. You are not required to tell them why you can begin immediately. You can say that you have a prior obligation, but don't be specific.

  • Wait until the job has been offered to you before you tell them. If you tell them in the interview... you're not going to get the job. If it's a high-level job, you may be able to take the time off for the cruise. If it's an entry-level job... probably not. Most jobs (outside of fast-food) have a 60-90 day probation period that does not allow for any time off. If you're not currently in need of a job, I'd stop looking until it's closer to your vacation time (after this interview of course). Good luck!

  • You really shouldn't even go to that interview. I bet there's a lot of people looking forward to that job, people that doesn't have money for the bills let alone for a cruise. You will lose your time, make them lose their time and take away the opportunity for the other people. There's a crisis out there, if you don't need/want/like a job, then just leave it to some one who really deserve it.

  • It sounds like you've already made your decision, but let them know at the end of the interview, AFTER you've made your impression. Let them know that it's non-refundable and that you wouldn't even consider going if there was any way to get out of it. They'll understand if you have proven good work record and that you're a hard worker. But if you're not fussed about the job then just go on the cruise. If I could make that decision I would lol.

  • The cruise is something that you mention after they offer you the job. If you mention it before that, it gives them a reason to axe you if you are tied with another candidate.

But if this job is no big deal to you, why even interview?

  • if this job's not important don't bother wasting yours and their time.
anyways, you mention something like that after you get the job.
something like that will affect in their decision-making

  • Definately after you are hired. It is unusual to take off so soon in a job so if they say no, it is up to you to quit or stay.

  • I would mention towards the end of your interview
