I have a job interview with the Belk department store on Wednesday. What would be a good outfit to wear that would get me the job? Thank you.

In the past, when applying to a sales associate position I've always gone with: 1) non-jeans (usually a pair of black pants) and 2) depending on the weather a nice button down or sweater and light jewelry. Take a look at what other associates are wearing and try to match the style. If they're dressing more trendy, feel free to get more creative. If they're much more conservative, then lean towards being more conservative. And when in doubt, overdress a little (but a suit would probably be overkill).

Critical Mistakes To Avoid at Job Interview

• People generally advise you to dress up at least two levels higher than the current job for which you are appearing. It will create a good first impression. Never wear blue jeans while attending a job interview. The jeans may be expensive, but jeans are immediately frowned upon at interviews. Casual job interview attire is not advisable if you are serious in getting the job. The general rule is to opt for conservative shades and designs. Bright checked shirts, loud colored blouses, and odd designed dresses are not to be worn at all.


• Nice dress pants, a nice shirt -- buttondown or otherwise, just make sure it's a nice shirt -- heels. For a lot of interviews, I would suggest a dress, but I felt like that wouldn't be the right fit for this job interview.


• I would wear one of those executive suits type things that girls wear. Im not completely sure what they are called, but they are cute and professional. Try with a black shoe and a little hand bag.


• a blouse and a high waisted skirt that will go over it with high heels

• Be sure to wear pantyhose if you want to get the job.


• wear classy black top and pants. don't come in jeans of a tshirt. wear black high heels with it too.
