Job Interview Questions: Is is appropriate to wear diamond jewelry to a job interview?

I inherited a one caret diamond solitare, diamond stud earrings and a diamond necklace that I wear everyday, along with my own wedding rings containing diamonds. I don't want people to think that I am wealthy, but wonder if I should take them off to go to a job interview. I am currently unemployed and have had several interviews but still no job a year later. Are interviewers "put off" by my jewelry?

How to Prepare Yourself for a Job Interview

Recommended Answer:
It may depend on the job, but I think the employer would be more concerned with the way you present the ways you will be a valuable asset to the company. Many companies like the fact that their employees will come to work presentable. Once you get the job check out www.brilliance.com/ for your holiday shopping!

5 Job Interview Answers to Avoid

  • i dont think its inappropriate or anything lke tht but if u r wearing something rlly thick and sparkly then lay oiff....the studs r fine, the rings r fine, and if the necklace is not something to big then go ahead.... interviewers shud not b put of if the whole outfit and jewelry put together make u look professional....

  • I would say keep the studs and wedding rings (You shouldn't ever have to take off your wedding and engagement bands!) but don't wear the necklace.
The goal of interview attire is to say nothing about your personality except that you are smart and professional. (Unless you are in a creative field, but I don't think you are based on your question) It's best to err on the side of minimalism with interviews.

  • I don't think it matters if you wear diamonds as long as you look smart and presentable, although if you feel that it may be a bit much for an interview then lean the diamonds at home.
good luck with the interview im sure your find something soon!

  • Sorry to hear you are having problems with finding a job, I think it is more to do with the current climate than your jewels. If you wear them everyday then they are a part of you and you should always be yourself. Good Luck

  • I wouldn't wear the 1ct solitaire (unless it's the engagement ring). With the necklace, if it's just a pendant, it should be fine. The stud earrings should be fine also, unless they are bigger that 1/2 ct each. It also depends what kind of job you are looking for. Have a look how other people in that position are dressed and how much jewelry they wear. If possible, check this out at the company you are going to for an interview.

  • No one should judge a person by their jewelry unless you are talking about Mr T type of gold chains, rings and bracelets.

Diamond solitaire and diamonds studs are worn by most business women every day because they are simple yet elegant which shows a good taste in jewelry and fashion. Not sure whatthe necklace looks like but maybe you can leave it off for the interview.

Of course all this will depend on the person interviewing, the compay and the job position but you should comfortably wear your diamond solitaire and diamond studs.

  • as long as it is elegant and tasteful, it shouldn't be a problem unless you are trying to get a job in some type of resteraunt. Then you are not supposed to wear jewelry because it can fall off into the food or bags or get caught in dangerous cutting machines. Also, You may be making yourself look very wealthy and if they feel you don't need the job, you may not care enough about it. It may not be the jewelry at all. Re-look over your resume's. It's hard getting a job these days. They may think you are looking for too much money. Diamonds are classy and go with just about everything. good luck.
