Job Interview Questions: Is it ok to wear a suit and tie to a job interview?

The interview is for a tour guide job at a local state park. Ideally I would be conducting boat tours if I got the job. I want to look nice, but I don't want to overdress. Thoughts?

The interview is probably the first time the employer gets to meet with you personally. As a result, you want to give him or her the best visual impression of you that is possible. Wearing a suit and tie will accomplish this.
Wearing a tuxedo would be over dressing.

Five Tips to Nailing Your Job Interview

  • Absolutely. i had a friend who wanted to work at a Auto shop fixing cars and he showed up in his work clothes.he did not get the job beacuse of that.

  • OK? I thought it was expected.

  • Your supposed to be dressed so that if the job was offered to you on the spot you
would be ready. Nobody loses out on a job interview dressing up; but that is because
by removing the coat and tie you could dress down which might be required if you
were to start that day. Keep a comfortable pair of shoes in your car too

  • Is it OK? As a supervisor myself,if you DIDN'T show up dressed like that- and I don't care if the job included scraping bird poop off the side walk. You may not realize it but your future employer is looking at you from head to toe. It is going to cost him/her money to train you and at the same time this person is wondering how are you going to put some coin into his/her pocket.

  • I just cringed when I read that. Yes, please wear a suit and tie. All interviews are business formal and should be dressed for properly. Just because lots of people dress down doesn't mean we all have to lower our standards.
